Correction: Semi-OT: printer for new museum signs
I concur with most of the discussion following my previous comments. Laser printers are king for low maintenance and cost-per-page; but ink is convenient in the circumstances noted. As Evan has stated, they need a tiny-office solution for quick signage and general but light printing use. Scanning is part of that solution. However, a freebie B&W letter-size laser printer will print for FREE, and would be a good thing to locate elsewhere. I'll only add, that my Epson ink carts (black and color) are a few years old but have not dried out. My print use is obviously occasional, but printing something each month is a really, REALLY good idea for any inkjet. The Epson has many print diagnostic modes and reports cartridge capacity and condition. These modern printers, laser and ink, are awfully smart. Herb -- Herbert R. I may be able to supply a B&W letter-size laser printer to VCFed. When everything is shaken out after Autumn and I move our work areas to the new building I will see what is left. I should have at least one. -Dave -- Dave McGuire, AK4HZ New Kensington, PA
I'm still chugging along on my networked LaserJet 4. I keep trying to replace it, but nothing measures up. I had Ian rebuild it a few years ago, *well* worth the money. Plus it tells you PC LOAD LETTER when it's out of paper! Seriously though, I paid $2.50 at the VT Surplus Auction in college, I wanted a laser printer to try toner transfer PC boards. I've been through 3 or 4 HP inkjets and a Samsung color laser, and kept having to get the LaserJet 4 out. Toner is super cheap but I've never bought any as I'm still on the cartridge that came with it. Thank you, but we'd like to have some color in our posters.
Wait, black dot matrix isn't good enough for you? ;-) Sorry couldn't resist. -- Linux Home Automation Neil Cherry ncherry@linuxha.com http://www.linuxha.com/ Main site http://linuxha.blogspot.com/ My HA Blog Author of: Linux Smart Homes For Dummies
I have a spare network enabled HP laser jet 4plus for VCF which we can use for printing high volume hand outs and stuff. It can print on some pretty heavy paper stock and is dirt cheap to run. I just have to move it to the new space and it even has serial so we can print from vintage machines. The problem Evan is trying to solve is the colour signage for the museum. If someone can recommend a good 11x17 printer, we don't need a scanner, for around $200 or less please post an online link. Thanks, Corey corey cohen uǝɥoɔ ʎǝɹoɔ

I'd happy to get a laser for us if a color one could be had inexpensively. Assuming not, then we'll at least avoid HP which is the scammiest ink company of all.
