IBM to break up 109-year old company to focus on cloud growth

IBM hasn't been the same since it sold its PC/laptops to Lenovo. Their cloud business is not very good, I am unsure what they think will happen by this action, unless it's just for the board of directors to make more $$. There was some investor type on CSPAN a few months ago with a rant about execs. He singled out IBM in his example of horrible companies, based on the exec leadership not really driving innovation and instead buying back their own stock. Which used to be illegal. Was interesting. - Ethan

I used to dream of when I could afford a genuine IBM Thinkpad. By the time that happened they weren't made by IBM any more. :-( Sadly for me IBM began going down hill when they began to stop their software development in the mid 90's. Not just PC stuff but mainframe as well. Put me out of work. Got so disgusted I sold all my IBM stock. Eventually bought Apple with the cash. Worked out pretty damn well as that was pre-iPod. Not sure how unloading their Cloud business helps IBM proper, but I'm not a business genius. I'm sure a few people will make a lot of money off of the breakup. Are businesses still buying mainframes?
