Will anybody be bringing hard disk imaging equipment this weekend?
Will anybody be bringing hard disk imaging equipment to the upcoming work weekend? I have a circa-1993 ATA hard drive and a PC-XT MFM hard drive that I want to image. For the MFM, I don't even know where to begin. Regards, Dan FitzGerald They/Them/Theirs http://www.vm.ibm.com/devpages/dfitzger
laplink cables are the way to go if you have two systems that have a parallel port. Laplink also works with serial but it takes longer. On Thu, Mar 24, 2022 at 2:41 PM Dan FitzGerald via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org> wrote:

I'd recommend http://www.pdp8online.com/mfm/ but am a little biased :-). If you have it functional in a machine then methods such as Degnan suggested will work. Others are more familiar with these method. The MFM emulator can archive the drive independent of any host computer and I have developed some methods that can recover disks the host controller would just give read errors on. I need to get my VCF exhibit ready so won't be making the next workshop. I can bring mfm board to one later in the year. Late in the day at VCF east can get slow so might be able to try a quick read try then if your are in a hurry. MFM drives are developing a number of faults so may need more effort than time permits to get the drive functional. Let me know if you wish me to bring stuff to VCF east.

Yeah- for some reason decromaner has all the good SEO magic cause it kept popping to the top when i searched 'mfm pdp drive emulator' - but then I saw that he is linking back to your site and so I figured I just post that link. -andy

David, what’s the deal with decromancer? Is it an officially sanctioned clone by you?

My design is open source so people are free to make/sell it. They made some changes to the board which are listed on their site. My understanding is they use my software unmodified. I don't get anything from their sales.
I can bring my MFM emulator and my hard disk imaging PC. Should be able to take care of both easily. -Ian On Thu, Mar 24, 2022 at 2:42 PM Dan FitzGerald via vcf-midatlantic <vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org> wrote:
