Google Ads on VC Forum
A suggestion was made (I think by Bill Drom. or Todd?) at Festivus that we eliminate Google Ads over on VC Forum. The cabal huddled :) and we agreed that the ads aren't necessary. A magic button was clicked in the forum administrative panel, and POOF! No more Google Ads. (Ads served a purpose when it was Erik's personal site. Any funds they brought the Federation were too modest to be worth their annoyance.)
Always nice to find ad-free corners of the internets. Perhaps a small paypal donate button on the bottom of the page would be in order? -J On Tue, Dec 6, 2016 at 11:37 PM, Evan Koblentz via vcf-midatlantic <vcf-midatlantic@lists.vintagecomputerfederation.org> wrote:

Hooray! Glad to see this, thanks for making it happen :)

I don't remember who raised it, but I've encountered Buy-a-Bride kinda ads when browsing the forums on the iPad (only thing I don't have an adblocker on). Not the sort of thing a professional museum/preservation group needs, and there's basically no control over what Google serves up.

That seems *much* more appropriate, and IIRC VCF is already set up with a PayPal donation account, right? No ads at all is fine, but you might consider allowing static banners to be purchased by members of the community and relevant businesses, if it's for something that's actually relevant to the community. Like if someone wanted to advertise their group buy on components or a new DIY kit or something. Potential buyers apparently can't always figure out how to read a "For Sale" thread and get a message out :) Thanks, Jonathan

I literally choked on my coffee reading this. I've see this so many times. That and the "I can't solder" are two things that make me shake my head. I learned to solder electronics at 7. Plumbing at 8. Not a lot of difference really. Heat control and cleanliness. Kelly

Yeah I thought of that last night. Going to make a banner linking to this page: http://vcfed.org/wp/contribute/

speaking of the donation page, just a suggestion, I wanted to mention this over the wknd I think it would be apropos to have the 555 Timer donation say $5.55 But I know it's too close to the Kilobyte Donation amount at $10.24 And to fill in that old spot, you could have a 64K donation, Since it's rather common unit of memory, at $64.00 I know it's not the binary equivalent, but it's close enough, versus the $55.50 You could always add a real Kilobyte Donation button for $1,024.00 just a thought Dan
