forum posting problem
Hi guys. I just spent an hour working on a post on my PDP-11 project. I was reviewing it when I clicked on one of the inline images (as attachment) to see how it looked. It brought up the framed hop-up with the image. I clicked the image within the hop up and the browser now showed the url for the image directly. No hop up, no forum in the background. I then went to click "back" to continue editing the post and I got a blank white page. I went back several times just to arrive back at the original "REPLY TO POST" when I began with no sign of the hour of work I did. Nothing I could do would get it back. Anyone know if the draft is stored somewhere? Is there some place I can go to view my drafts and continue on? Otherwise, very sad! Eugene

I think everyone who posts nontrivial content has encountered this. I personally put everything together in a text editor, then paste it in when I'm ready, for long posts. Also, be sure you check the box to stay logged in. I have had posts get lost because my login expired before I submitted the post. On Mon, Apr 23, 2018, 7:36 AM systems_glitch via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vintagecomputerfederation.org> wrote:

Thanks all, an unpleasant lesson learned. It would be great to be able to go into your profile and see any drafts there. And be able to return to them. Is there anyone we can talk to about such functionality? Maybe some of us could put some money together and even help pay for the enhancement (I know I'd kick in some) Thanks ________________________________________ From: vcf-midatlantic <vcf-midatlantic-bounces@lists.vintagecomputerfederation.org> on behalf of Bill Degnan via vcf-midatlantic <vcf-midatlantic@lists.vintagecomputerfederation.org> Sent: Monday, April 23, 2018 7:53 AM To: vcf-midatlantic Cc: Bill Degnan Subject: Re: [vcf-midatlantic] forum posting problem Also, be sure you check the box to stay logged in. That would be Erik and I.

Initial results on Google indicate the Vbulletin forum software does not have a drafts option.

The guy who lives across the street from the museum makes his living by writing custom extensions and modifications to Vbulletin and its descendants. Let me know if you'd like me to put you in touch with him. -Dave -- Dave McGuire, AK4HZ New Kensington, PA
I've had the system timeout on me too- I don't have a screen shot, but after I logged back in, somewhere below the editing portion was a link to recover the last post-in-progress. I forget the exact wording, but several times I have successfully used that facility and continued where I left off before I was "rudely interrupted". Since I discovered it I have not lost any unfinished posts. It is obtuse but it worked. I'll see if I can force it to happen and show you all. Couldn't hurt! You know how to reach me. Thanks
OK I tried- I started a message and let it timeout but when I logged back in my message was simply intact. So now I don't know if the recovery functionality has changed from what I saw before. On 4/23/2018 5:58 PM, Douglas Crawford wrote:

awesome, you should put this into the forum support section, I will make it a sticky so people in the future can access it. I was thinking of extending the time one stays logged in, given our posts take longer than normal to author, just to make life easier on everyone. I always log in with the "stay logged in" checkbox so this never happens to me anymore, the best solution. b On Mon, Apr 23, 2018 at 6:37 PM, Douglas Crawford via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vintagecomputerfederation.org> wrote:

I just tried it again and I got the white screen after logging back in. Reload didn't work. I wrangled the back button a few times and backed up to the login screen again. This time after I logged back in my composition was restored to how I left it. So I was able to recover, but not the way I had before with that "restore" selection. Of course, if the "keep me logged in" is a solution then everyone would be advised to use it. On 4/23/2018 10:35 PM, Bill Degnan via vcf-midatlantic wrote:
