Museum Tour 2017-08-11 August 11, 2017
A group of forty-five children (about 8 years old) from Camp WOW (I believe through Children of America) came to InfoAge to tour all the museums. They were split into two groups. They all seemed to enjoy the museum. It's nice to have large groups to show off the museum. They were interested, well behaved and asked a lot of good questions. -- ======================================================== Jeff Brace ========================================================
By the way an interesting observation from recent tours is that some children about age 5 and under don't even know how to use a mouse. They look like they have never used one before. They try to touch the CRT monitor like it is a touch screen. Their parents quickly tell them that it doesn't work and direct them to the mouse or keyboard. This is a new development. Previously children would be confronted with the keyboard and say "Where's the mouse?". I show them the Macintosh and they knew what to do with the mouse. Now it seems that touch screens are so prevalent that even mice and a foreign tool to some children. <https://www.avast.com/sig-email?utm_medium=email&utm_source=link&utm_campaign=sig-email&utm_content=webmail&utm_term=icon> Virus-free. www.avast.com <https://www.avast.com/sig-email?utm_medium=email&utm_source=link&utm_campaign=sig-email&utm_content=webmail&utm_term=link> <#DAB4FAD8-2DD7-40BB-A1B8-4E2AA1F9FDF2> On Fri, Aug 11, 2017 at 2:04 PM, Jeffrey Brace <ark72axow@gmail.com> wrote:

I'm not sure it's really sad, that's progress. We don't really understand what it was like to live in New Jersey 150 years ago. Imagine a Farmer working a team of horses in a huge field of grain. Toss in a train occasionally running between fields. The heat of the summer, no air conditioner, no telephone, no TV, neighbors probably a good distance away. Probably a lot like Kansas now. ;-) An interesting tour is in Allentown NJ, the Walnford mill. 19th Century Grist Mill. A very interesting tour. Sorry back on topic, would you understand the meters and scopes of that older, earlier computers. I'm sure a few of us might. I wouldn't. -- Linux Home Automation Neil Cherry ncherry@linuxha.com http://www.linuxha.com/ Main site http://linuxha.blogspot.com/ My HA Blog Author of: Linux Smart Homes For Dummies

I've noticed that sort of thing with my kids in a different aspect; they think most LCDs are touch screens, so occasionally they walk up to the TV and poke it. But my 5-year-old daughter definitely knows how mice and keyboards work. - Dave
