Am I the last person to have heard MC Frontalot's song "It is pitch dark"? My vote for best vintage computer-themed song video. Bill
That's a very old video :). I met him at Pax - super talented / interesting / nerdy guy. On Thu, Jun 13, 2024 at 8:51 AM Bill Degnan via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org> wrote:

Ok I really enjoyed that. Thank you I don't know why I never heard of this earlier. I happen to think the Neo Geo song was pretty catchy. Yea it's old gaming but I thought it was well done. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_kGJBv6Wr4 On Thu, Jun 13, 2024 at 8:51 AM Bill Degnan via vcf-midatlantic <vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org> wrote:

Here's a few of my favorite songs either about vintage computers or that are vintage and about computers: Hey Hey 16K by MJ Hibbett & The Validators: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ts96J7HhO28 S-100 by Frank Hayes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ow78cUDdTOg Keeping Up With The Commodore remix by Woxy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7E6qR-1ASMA Pac-Man Fever by Buckner & Garcia: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XY_ESTnBlS0 Enjoy! -Alexander 'Z' Pierson On Thursday, June 13, 2024 at 09:23:20 AM EDT, Christian Liendo via vcf-midatlantic <vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org> wrote: Ok I really enjoyed that. The video is filmed in Jason Scott's basement IIRC. Great song! Play it all the time when setting up / tearing down the main talk room @ VCF East :-) MC Frontalot had a song called The Penny Arcade Theme which appeared on the In the Groove dance arcade soundtrack. It name drops NeXTStation and Tandy which was pretty odd for the time. The main chorus is the load string from the Commodore 64! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4ETjxuHqlc Might of what started his thing. MC Frontalot with a live band at Nekocon was really good. Jesse Dangerously and the whole Backburner group are really good, but Jesse Dangerously hasn't put out much in a while. Not sure what is going on up there in Canada but lots of good nerd rapper guys. Always thought the lyrics of this song were ingenious, but the recording or the mix just never did the song justice: Obey the Moderator, Optimus Rhyme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTLwiccIOxI (Might resonate with the people that run the VCF Fed forum :-) Also don't forget OpenBSD releases a song or songs with every OS release, which is pretty damn odd. - Ethan

That was MY introduction to MC Frontalot, and probably still my favorite First world problem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3w1_E1V46M The art style reminds me of the manga parts of FLCL. Maybe it's just the first time I was exposed to that style. I saw a couple episodes of FLCL at some animecon back in the very early 2000s (no dub, no sub, and I only knew a couple dozen words of Japanese at the time). The animation and the embedded manga and the music (Pillows) were so awesome I knew I couldn't wait for an official US release. I tracked down some discs I could play on my region-free player, and I handed out printed copies to the rest of my family of the best Japanese -> English translation I could find (not terribly good, but sufficient).
