I don't see why the author can't have a stable of 10 audio clips to insert with the one video bumper, and apply as needed. Assuming you have to have something, how about a very simple and short audio clip like a modem connecting or a "disk read", or the beep of a terminal coming up? b
I would be fine with omitting the music. Just the logo with the typing works for me, but that was not an option. Regards, Jeff On Fri, May 3, 2024 at 8:40 PM Jeffrey Brace via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org> wrote:

At the risk of bikeshedding (that is what we're doing, right?), Just as you do for television, opening with an all black screen (yes, I see the cursor) looks more like a technical fault than an artistic choice. Besides that part I like the animation. I'm going to have to agree with Mr. Galinat, none of the sound choices really do it for me, but I think it's the typing sound that is more bothersome. Feels a little too LGR-esque. tl;dr: keep it short and sweet, unintrusive. Just my two cents. -Z On Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 01:01:02 AM EDT, Jeff Galinat via vcf-midatlantic <vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org> wrote: I would be fine with omitting the music. Hello everyone, I appreciate all the feedback. No matter the flavor. It's nice that there is some passion and feedback. I would have been disappointed if there were no responses. Some say that I never should have done this because it opens up a can of worms to 100 people with 100 different preferences. Since there were so many people with so many varied and long suggestions and criticisms, I had decided to make a few versions and have people vote on a small concise list. A survey is easier to manage than a list of criticisms and suggestions that revolve around the idea of "I don't like it. I want something else. I don't know what, but something else". This isn't helpful. What is helpful is a specific suggestion or volunteering to help create it. I didn't have to open it to the public, but I feel that getting ideas from more people would give us something that we might not have thought of as well as the community feeling like they participated in the process. It seems like there are many that are in the category of "other". It would be helpful if a specific suggestion was made and then I can make another version. Perhaps even do another round of voting. As for no music, the author said "No music makes no sense ... they can turn off the volume to imagine that and save me the extra work!". Vote on one of the seven and that's it. I'm not recording any votes for people manually. Just use the Google Form and vote on one of the seven. I'm the filter for all of this criticism from the public and the author and I'm trying not to frustrate him as he did this pro bono. I didn't want too many changes. It seems like he is getting frustrated and I don't want that. He flatly refused to take out the sound and to have a 1541 drive sound version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gnMgmlKi_o. I do want to wrap this up quickly as I hadn't thought that this process would take so long. I had hesitated to do it for this reason, but someone convinced me to create one using vintage technology. It's holding up the release of all the VCF East videos and I want to start getting those out. Thanks everyone! Yes it's normal. It was a mistake in the original dev of the 8bit Atari OS but the product mgr like it- it let people know that something was going on - in a time when things took a while to load. So it stayed in the system. The bug became a feature. -andy

I'm having indecision with all of them. I think the video should have a "startup sound" before any of the animated drawing starts, followed by a short tune during the drawing of the elements, then only the keyboard clicking when the letters type in. <curmudgeon> Jeff has stated that he's not tallying responses submitted on the mailing list, but he admitted that many of the responses fit into the "Other" category. My suggestion is to create another survey with "Other" as an option, and allow the voters to comment on what they feel the problem is, or how to improve them. From all the feedback I've seen on this list, there is a lot of dissatisfaction with the current choices. I feel that this is being forced upon us. Just because the creator did this gratis, doesn't make it right. </curmudgeon> Mike Loewen mloewen@cpumagic.scol.pa.us Old Technology http://q7.neurotica.com/Oldtech/
