Re: [vcf-midatlantic] VCF Class Idea...
If it looks like I can make VCF East next year, I’d be happy to teach a class on this - and other more-vintage cabling. It’s not quite too-soon, IMO, when we have machines going on 30-35 years old that have Ethernet. -- Jameel Akari

That would be a great class. Include 10-base-2 for those who want to recreate that style of networking. You could also include building serial cables (9 and 25 pin) both straight through and null-modem. CDL has a pneumatic crimper for D shell connectors (for making AIU and serial cables) and tooling for the 172157 "N" connectors used for Belden 9880 thicknet On 4/14/2025 6:03 PM, Jameel akari via vcf-midatlantic wrote:

This is beginning to sound like a VCF exhibitor. You could show how vampire taps were used in ThickNet 10Base-5. I'm sure people might also like to see Thin-net terminators and "T" connectors. For that matter, maybe some Token-Ring stuff would be cool. I’d been thinking about a Ethernet And Then Some exhibit for the past couple years, so yeah maybe I do a class Friday and exhibit the stuff over the weekend. … I’ll need to free up a 2-post network rack between now and next April. :) — Jameel Akari

CDL has extra two-post racks on site that you can borrow - would need to be bolted to a pallet so they don't tip over. Martin Flynn On 4/14/2025 10:41 PM, Jameel Akari via vcf-midatlantic wrote:

Ive always bolted 2x4 skis to my relay racks at home, most of the wood going behind it since that is where the load is. I bore a bit of a hole to sink the bolts in on the bottom so it sits flat. On Thu, 17 Apr 2025, Martin A. Flynn via vcf-midatlantic wrote:
