Hello! But you do know that the individual holding the recording device wasn't human? Hint: What was Jurassic Park's best kept predator? And the most underdressed for work ones. ----- Gregg C Levine gregg.drwho8@gmail.com "This signature fought the Time Wars, time and again." That would be my video, testing out my phone gimbal. My dad thought I could use one, and gave it to me a few months back. Considering I make it a point to do a VCF walk around these days, it made sense. Here are the rest of them: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLsA9JcFUIiWU9r4DDuEpkUvwG8irA4TUL I'm still processing my photos from the event, that may take some time, I'm testing out some new raw processing workflows so I'm not sure how long it will take. VCF West was fun, saw lots of cool people, lots of cool stuff. Flew out with my friend Katherine (who exhibited at VCF East this year,) and we left about a week prior to West to have a chance to tool up and down the coast of California. Got to finally meet a long-time friend of mine after a decade of knowing each other online. We hauled her and her VCF exhibit to Silicon Valley -- that road trip was a blast! We visited a bunch of air & space museums and took photos with a few space capsules I hadn't yet checked off my list (25/40 completed at time of writing: https://www.commodorez.com/spacecraft/). We went to Anchor Electronics, Apex Surplus, and an e-waste facility in Union City. All three places had goodies, be it vintage parts, scrap computer parts, and even an entire Rolm 1601/04 Nova-style front panel. She and I brought back so much extra stuff that we needed to buy additional luggage to get it all home. Lots of books, lots of software, and plenty of electronics. As for the VCF itself, apparently an air conditioning compressor caught fire on the roof of the CHM, so Saturday was a bit hotter than Friday without the help of AC. The folks at the south end of the room were feeling it the most without airflow. The stuff that's common in California is different than what most of us see on the east coast, and it's kinda wild what you find. Lot's of engineering prototypes show up and people don't even blink an eye. The visiting food tucks to the CHM was a brilliant thing -- I got some very delicious loaded waffle fries on Friday night after the doors closed. Leonard Tramiel made an appearance, always nice to talk with him. I got to see an operational Apollo 5-era DSKY, never seen one running before, and as a space history enthusiast, you can bet that was a real treat. I also saw a variant of TV Typewriter that was new to me, had an enjoyable conversation on the subject with one Stanley Ruppert who had a stellar early MC6800 exhibit. As for familiar faces from East, Celgen Studios and Core64 were also present at West, both of which had great exhibits too. There was also Ryan Burke's Macintosh anthology setup that many of y'all saw at east -- nice to see that out West too. The System Source folks had the IBM 1130 in tow, although I didn't catch it running this time around (they came in super early to IPL it before start-of-day on Friday). Anyway, to all the east coast folks, if you have the means and the time, I recommend seeing VCF West atleast once. To all the bay area folks on this list, it was good to see you. -Alexander 'Z' Pierson On Thursday, August 15, 2024 at 01:15:28 PM EDT, Gregg Levine via vcf-midatlantic <vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org> wrote: Hello!
