Are you guys living on EBT? $50 isn't bad and they'll last longer than the fluorescents they replace. Besides, if this is for VCFed, wouldn't they be tax deductions for operating expenses?
I'm glad you went LED. I'm all LED in the apartment and it is a noticeable difference on the old electricity bill. Good Investment.

One thing to be wary of: on the cheaper LEDs they are driven harder and will dim over time. -- Linux Home Automation Neil Cherry ncherry@linuxha.com http://www.linuxha.com/ Main site http://linuxha.blogspot.com/ My HA Blog Author of: Linux Smart Homes For Dummies
Whatever gets installed, VCF needs to make sure the drivers do not generate radio interference . The antique radio guys across the street won't appreciate it. On Mar 10, 2016, at 12:33 PM, Christian Liendo via vcf-midatlantic <vcf-midatlantic@lists.vintagecomputerfederation.org> wrote:
One of the reasons we waited and went with Cree. That and the 10 year warranty, and having a few flashlights with very nice Cree LEDs in them.
That and Home Depot had them on sale

Someone remind me about this LED idea around October. :) Building the new museum; Trenton; VCF East; HOPE; VCF West; Maker Faire... it's going to be a very busy year!
*Whatever gets installed, VCF needs to make sure the drivers do not generate radio interference .* * The antique radio guys across the street won't appreciate it.* Good thought, but RF noise decreases in proportion to the square of the distance away from the source. I think we'd be ok from across the street ;-) On Thu, Mar 10, 2016 at 12:51 PM, Evan Koblentz via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vintagecomputerfederation.org> wrote:

No, not at all. Weak signals from other continents are often completely obliterated by interference from LED, CFL, and standard fluorescent lighting. The inverse squares law applies to the desired transmissions too, and they're coming from a lot farther away that across the street. -Dave -- Dave McGuire, AK4HZ New Kensington, PA

Two words: Faraday cage Then we could get Tempest certified too ;-) Bill S.

Don't know what the power payment situation is with InfoAge, but we figured out that in a year, it's typically not worthwhile to own anything other than LED bulbs, even if CFLs were *free*. That is of course for our power supplier (National Grid/NiMo in upstate NY at the time) and usage. This was with buying Cree replacements for screw-in bulbs. Didn't run the numbers on tube lights. Thanks, Jonathan

VCF pays $1/yr. rent and we always donate extra from from our events. I don't know how much the mothership electric bill is each month. I do know there are a lot of inefficiencies. Lack of insulation, old-fashioned lighting everywhere, etc. For the record, a while ago we began replacing the incandescent bulbs in our warehouse with CF bulbs. It probably does not make much difference, considering that we are in the warehouse for at most an hour or two per week.
