Greetings all, Nominations are closed. Now is the time to vote. The candidate list and voting details can be found at the link below. Voting starts now and ends at 11:59 PM on December 11th, 2024. Winners will be announced December 14th, 2024 at the annual VCF Festivus celebration. Thank you for your time and commitment to the organization. Hello - Nobody asked for this, but I'm sending it for what it's worth. I'll talk about the current candidates for Steering Committee now they are official and rank them as I see them. As a former committee member I have opinions (man) and if they provide you with a kernel of info that helps or they prompt you to vote then I'm happy I sent it. Please vote. Very few members do vote and we need an involved membership.... One of the most critical, if not the most critical aspect of VCF Mid-Atlantic (VMA) is participation. While participating can be often done virtually, boots on the ground is the only way I ever saw anything productive done at VMA- whether it was a Festival, swap meet, workshop or on the Steering Committee. Showing up and being there is the most important aspect for effective leadership. Here is my rank of the listed candidates, I'll be voting for the top three choices. 1 • Rick Lewis Rick is my number one choice, he has been one of the most thoughtful, practical, and hands-on members I've met in years. From the lessons he's created as a docent in the museum to his help and promotion of the Festival Scavenger Hunt he's a perfect choice for the committee. 2 • Doug Crawford Doug is an easy choice. His revamping of the museum has turned it into something dynamic and interesting and his participation has been instrumental in so many of the aspects of the group this is an easy choice. 3 • Dean Notarnicola A final easy choice. Dean was a member with me in the initial steering committee and has always provided insightful and deliberate leadership when required. His handing and running of the Atari Classroom in East 2024 made it the best class room I've experienced. We need him back on the Committee to manage things over the next few years. 4 • Jeff Salzman Jeff is a consistent figure at all the VMA events and has led the committee for the past session. There is no reason not to vote for him to return, except that I do believe the top three candidates above deserve a chance this round. 5 • CJ Reha CJ is an excellent resource and has been involved in many workshops and repairs and festivals over the years, however I'm not sure he's ready for the Committee. He is ranked down here mostly because of the good choices above. please vote, -andy

I would like to interject and state that CJ has been working in the background on equipment in the warehouse, is a very consistent member showing up to a majority events and has been instrumental towards repairing many of our artifacts for years. He is very knowledgeable on our systems and is fronting the repair of some of our earliest and rarest pieces such as a Tektronix M88k machine and an Apollo Domain workstation from the Grabbe collection. CJ has prior personal and professional experience working for other museums and a fantastic attention to detail. He has been a VCF Member for many years, has a great passion for our organization and our artifacts, and is just as deserving a voice and position on steering committee as any of the other candidates. Agreed, however there have been postings here on this list (and elsewhere) that lend me to believe there is some personal growth needed before I could vote for a candidate such as CJ for the important position on the Steering Committee. The other nominees are just clearly much easier votes for me. Fixing computers does not always translate to many of the soft skills needed for a successful tenure on the VCF Steering Committee. I hope you would realize that. I'm only calling attention to this since CJ and the others put themselves out for public scrutiny. The nominees should all be aware of this, and nothing personal here (save for my opinion of course)... I want the best for VCF MidAtlantic (or is it MARCH???). -andy

Hi Andy and all, It's quite rare I post on the list - most of the time I don't have much to input, so I tend to lurk - and so I have to say I am a little curious what you mean by "postings here on this list (and elsewhere)." My intention is never to upset or aggravate people; in fact, it usually eats at me if there is a rift between someone and I. I am extremely open to making amends or altering my behavior if it is somehow upsetting. But I've never been contacted about anything remotely like this, even though it sounds like you may have reservations. To be frank, I'd have rather heard about this in a private message, instead of in front of the entire public MARCH mailing list. Thanks. Oh your last posting about March and that discussion and its name- how it should _not_ be a vote and 'case closed' - that put me off (and a few others). Not the right sentiment for someone that would want to be on the Committee- where there are often votes. Again, I made the rank and it's just that, my rank. If I posted an email that just asked people to vote I'm sure most would just ignored it, so I decided to add some info for my reasoning. This list is not public; and you wanted to be nominated and so discussion about the nominees is a natural expression of democracy. -andy

CJ, your response was a well thought out, reasonable and measured response. Certainly not deserving of the follow up posted to the list. I hope you don’t feel it necessary to engage in the tit for tat, and know there are many of us that not only appreciate all you do, but have literally watched you not only grow into the man you have become, but also grow into the hobby that so many of us enjoy. You are literally the future of this hobby. I think it’s high time for some young fresh blood to give a unique perspective on the way things are run and managed. Tony Bogan Sent from my iPhone

I want to emphasize Andy's second paragraph. I am not singling out any individual, this applies to any candidate for SC. The concept that technical skill alone is a qualifier for the Steering Committee is missing the point of the committee. Having been a member of the SC for about three years, I can tell you from experience that I can't think of one decision that was based on technical expertise. This comes back to my comment about running the organization as a business. This doesn't need to detract from the club atmosphere/experience, but we need to "keep the lights on", and most on the SC also feel that there is an important mission that needs to be promoted. I hope I communicated my meaning clearly and that this was helpful. Chris On Sat, Nov 30, 2024 at 3:53 PM Andrew Diller via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org> wrote:

One of the most critical, if not the most critical aspect of VCF Mid-Atlantic (VMA) is participation.

You are welcome. I realize that in the past nominees have posted bios to help people who may not know them well decide, I don't know if the nominees plan on posting anything or not. This is definitely not a popularity contest, I based my opinion on what I saw that person do or say to me or other things I had direct experience of. I hope it helps people vote! -andy

Thanks, Andy, for sharing this. While I don't necessarily agree with all your assessments (and I don't have the b%$#@ to share!), I appreciate that you shared your experience. For the good of the organization, which needs to be BOTH a business and a club, this election should be more than a popularity contest.

The bylaws make that possible, too. "MARCH general membership is open and granted to anyone who joins the mailing list. Voting rights will be granted to active members who register for the mailing list no less than 30 days before the election." On Sat, Nov 30, 2024, 1:33 PM Chris Fala <chrisjpf33@gmail.com> wrote:
