Ian and the other gentleman working on the Fredon Flexwritere, please note: I think the diodes are wired in wrong. https://forum.vcfed.org/index.php?threads/friden-flexowriter-terminal.124174... It just dawned on me that the motor takes 100v DC and I looked at the above. The selenium diode (ah what a smell) may not work the way you think. Here's a schematic but it's hard to read. https://collections.museumsvictoria.com.au/content/media/21/535271-small.jpg http://www.bitsavers.org/pdf/friden/SP8673R2_Friden_Flexowriter_Programatic_... I think the selenium diode is setup as an AC Full Wave Rectifier. We should have one of those. We should be able to figure out which wires are which. But the current wiring won't work. -- Linux Home Automation Neil Cherry kd2zrq@linuxha.com http://www.linuxha.com/ Main site http://linuxha.blogspot.com/ My HA Blog Author of: Linux Smart Homes For Dummies KD2ZRQ
Neil, Thanks for looking up the unit! We already found out the hard way it was in wrong though, and that the negative DC was wired directly to AC Ground/neutral! I unfortunately didn’t realize or know that the center rod of a selenium rectifier isn’t supposed to be part of the circuit. Lesson learned I already have a proper rectifier and some 10W resistors on the way to give us the voltage drop. Hopefully Thomas and I get the Friden working safely next weekend. I looked up and found a better resolution manual for our model from 1959 which had the schematic last night. Should have done that in the first place, but excitement took the place where for thought should have been. Another Lesson hopefully learned -Ian L. We kept it with the machine so we can confirm the pin out it’s in a scented garbage bag sealed away hopefully forever on our cart On Mon, Feb 13, 2023 at 09:51 Neil Cherry <ncherry@linuxha.com> wrote:
