Exhibitors VCF East 2020 - Start planning your exhibits!
VCF East 2020 is coming soon (Friday, Saturday, Sunday April 24-26, 2020) so start planning your exhibits now! The overall theme this year is *The 6502 Processor* in remembrance of Chuck Peddle and the 45th anniversary of its creation. In addition to 6502 themed exhibits, we need a wide array of topics beyond the 6502, as always. In related news, we are no longer charging exhibitor table fees to acknowledge the significant effort exhibitors put forth in creating and presenting exhibits that are vital to the success of the event! We will release the online Exhibitor Submission Form and the Exhibitor FAQ within a week and alert everyone when they are available. Please send me any questions or comments and I will share them with the Steering Committee. -- ========================================= Jeff Brace Vice President, VCF East Showrunner Vintage Computer Federation
If you’re looking for additional topics this year is the 40th Anniversary of the TRS-80 Model III, the Color Computer and the PC-1 pocket computer. Pete

While I wholeheartedly welcome this change of policy, I was under the impression that our table fees served a second purpose as a blanket admission fee for all the InfoAge exhibits we have been able to visit while we were there. It's more of a personal curiosity, though. Perhaps I misunderstood the overall purpose of the fee. We look at it as a "Thank you" to our exhibitors for their contribution to the success of VCFe. On Tue, Jan 7, 2020 at 6:42 AM Jeff Salzman via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org> wrote:

VCF gives InfoAge a cut of the ticket sales, so they get their money.

The overall purpose of the fee covered t-shirt, table cloth, exhibitor sign, cost of VCF renting the table from the table company. No exhibitor fee, so no free t-shirt this year.

It varies from event to event but I started the ball rolling by dropping the exhibitor fee from VCF PNW in 2019. While covering expenses is important and necessary, it seems wrong to charge people for the privilege of creating an exhibit for us. We (the organization as a whole) still need to cover expenses, but we are trying to do it more through t-shirt sales, schwag (mousepads, coffee cups, etc.), consignment, gate fees (where possible) and donations/sponsorships. VCF Midwest doesn't charge exhibitor fees either. They don't seem to have any problems covering expenses. Besides sponsorship, I think the auction has a lot to do with it. Mike Loewen mloewen@cpumagic.scol.pa.us Old Technology http://q7.neurotica.com/Oldtech/
The usual suspects from across the campus are offering new options to enhance your VCF display! CDL brought up the PBX that VCF member Kelly Leavitt donated via his employer. We can provide PSTN connections and TDM switching for modems in Buildings 9059 and 9010, along with telnet connections to our Citadel BBS over the LAN. If anyone needs a small, local PBX I have a self-contained Panasonic PBX up for grabs. All 12 ports support POTS phones. On Tue, Jan 7, 2020 at 7:07 PM Martin Flynn via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org> wrote:

Does this mean that if we have a VCF exhibit which can make use of a standard telephone connection for demonstration purposes, we would have access to such a connection? On Tue, Jan 7, 2020 at 7:07 PM Martin Flynn via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org> wrote:

OK. Now my interest is piqued. I could make use of a direct like (pulse dialing capabilities would be even more kitschy!) for my VIC-20 exhibit. I just don't remember which buildings are 9059 and 9010. On Mon, Jan 13, 2020 at 8:21 AM Martin Flynn <maflynn@theflynn.org> wrote:

9059 is the makerspace building, 9010 is the “h” building that houses the vcf museum Martin

Martin, That is wonderful. However if you are talking about VCF East Exhibitors, then we would need those connections in the hotel dining room and in 9032-A. These are the rooms where exhibitors setup. There are no exhibits in 9010-A. There may be some Friday classes in 9010-D or 9010-C that could potentially use it.

Jeff, I'm going to sign up once I nail down how many helpers I'll have. This year I'm going to call my display "You can take it with you: A look at printing from the early 1980s to the early 1990s" Seeing as I'll have many different printers connected, including 2 lasers and one wax transfer, I might need my own circuit. Thanks, On Mon, Jan 6, 2020 at 9:36 PM Jeffrey Brace via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org> wrote:
