If anyone wants to play with 1200-baud power, I can hook you up! We used to issue a VT100 clone and 1200 baud non-Hayes (menu-driven dialer) modem for employees to work from home in the 1980s. E-mail from your living room! It was like living in the future! Seriously... anyone use modems, even with a telephone simulator? I could outfit a room with enough devices to saturate an Apple II BBS... -ethan
Ooooohhhhh that's near me! Can you explain what a telephone simulator is? I've got a USB Dual Standard I'd love to play with too. On Tue, May 21, 2019 at 9:18 PM Ethan Dicks via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org> wrote:

It's a box that provides dialtone and multiple phone jacks. Little pretend phone switch.
We used to use relatively expensive lab equipment from TAS to do this sort of thing. Apparently nowadays you can buy them on Amazon for about $100. https://www.amazon.com/Viking-DLE-200B-Two-Way-Line-Simulator/dp/B004PXK314/... Devin -- Devin J. Heitmueller http://www.devinheitmueller.com

Looks like it's perched on top of some Mac A/V model... maybe the seller is still trying to pay that off. :)

If it was VT100 sized, that's a bold living room design statement.

I've setup a fax machine and fax modem in the house within the past couple years to scan in some documents. (fax machine = decent enough B&W scans with an idiotproof sheet feeder) I've got 24 analog ports on my phone switch so this is fun to play with sometimes. That said, I've been BBS-curious about trying some actual dialup BBSes in the world. The outside phone line doesn't get used for anything else... -- Jameel Akari
I use a modem with Vonage sometimes. VOIP functionality kind of limits me to 9600 or less, but it works. On Tue, May 21, 2019, 10:18 PM Ethan Dicks via vcf-midatlantic < vcf-midatlantic@lists.vcfed.org> wrote:

Food for thought: Take a look at C*NET. CDL has a C*Net switch, an office code (1000 C*NET numbers)r and a quick and dirty way to hand over analog phone lines. Disclosure: they are actually SIP and IAX2 run through a channel bank, so speed is limited to 9600 max. On 5/22/2019 2:00 PM, Jeff Salzman via vcf-midatlantic wrote:
