Hey, my lab is nowhere near that messy, and it's a lot larger. ;) But it's an honor to be even slightly associated with Jim Williams in this manner! ;) -Dave -- Dave McGuire, AK4HZ New Kensington, PA

Honestly, Jim's lab doesn't even look that messy, it's just very full. There is a semblance of organization there; everything seems to be at least visible. It's a lot neater-looking than my basement lab, in any case. - Dave

I have two 555s. Both need a lot of work, unfortunately. Someday. Did you see the LT app note of Jim Williams' authorship in which he presented a single picture of an oscilloscope CRT with both a time-domain and a frequency-domain plot on it? He added a footnote suggesting that people should try to figure out how he did that. It was with a 555, with a standard oscilloscope plugin for one gun and a spectrum analyzer plugin for the other gun. Great stuff. -Dave -- Dave McGuire, AK4HZ New Kensington, PA
Very cool. My brain hurts a little. :-) On Jun 2, 2016, at 11:18 AM, Dave McGuire via vcf-midatlantic <vcf-midatlantic@lists.vintagecomputerfederation.org> wrote: On 06/02/2016 11:10 AM, Kyle Owen via vcf-midatlantic wrote:

Yes, that's a classic! App note 35, page 16: http://cds.linear.com/docs/en/application-note/an35f.pdf

Yup! I bet Tektronix was really annoyed about that. They were desperate to get him to dump his "old" oscilloscopes. -Dave -- Dave McGuire, AK4HZ New Kensington, PA
