I don't remember who raised it, but I've encountered Buy-a-Bride kinda ads when browsing the forums on the iPad (only thing I don't have an adblocker on). Not the sort of thing a professional museum/preservation group needs, and there's basically no control over what Google serves up.

That seems *much* more appropriate, and IIRC VCF is already set up with a PayPal donation account, right?

No ads at all is fine, but you might consider allowing static banners to be purchased by members of the community and relevant businesses, if it's for something that's actually relevant to the community. Like if someone wanted to advertise their group buy on components or a new DIY kit or something. Potential buyers apparently can't always figure out how to read a "For Sale" thread and get a message out :)
