    The culprit turned out to be a RIFA X-class capacitor in the Astec 
power supply:

    This is exactly the same cap the blew in my Xerox 820-II.  Fortunately, 
I had ordered spares when I fixed the Xerox, and replaced the X and 
Y-class caps:

    Time to order a new batch from Digikey.  Here's a picture of the inside 
of the 8MB unit:

    The drive shows "ready" (green light).  I need to find the diskette 
with the INIT program to see if I can access the drive.
