  I have two 555s.  Both need a lot of work, unfortunately.  Someday.

  Did you see the LT app note of Jim Williams' authorship in which he
presented a single picture of an oscilloscope CRT with both a
time-domain and a frequency-domain plot on it?  He added a footnote
suggesting that people should try to figure out how he did that.  It was
with a 555, with a standard oscilloscope plugin for one gun and a
spectrum analyzer plugin for the other gun.  Great stuff.
