Good question
​The connection is as such
User Port ----> 4028 ----> Relays ----> Robot Arm
​The relays already provide the isolation from the motor power inside the
robot arm
I would use optoisolators in any interface which used semiconductors as
drivers, instead of relays, *even* when Mosfets were used as the driver.
These days you can get optoisolators which include an internal mosfet
driver.
