Hi Todd,
The newest version of Raspbian shows a warning message if the board is
underpowered, and previous versions showed a rainbow icon in the top right.
FWIW I've been able to run RPis off of less than 2.5A even with usb
peripherals and an hdmi. YMMV I suppose.
