Corey,

Don't forget that most of those custom chips have community replacements,
like PLAnkton (http://www.melon64.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2370) or
SuperPLA.  These chips really aren't custom ASICs, in the modern sense,
except for the SID, and there are several 95% replacements for that.
