True -

If it's a R3k it will have to be 5.3.

If it's a R4k it can be 6.5.22.

You can tell by hinv in the PROM or by looking at the SIMM RAM- the R4k takes regular SIMMS, the R3k has larger proprietary SIMMS.

We will install either 5.3 or 6.5 tomorrow via netbook - no CDROM is required.
