I have an Amiga 2500 and I run a SCSI2SD card in it. It's attached to the
SCSI controller that came in it. One issue is that the SCSI2SD boots
slower than the Amiga trying to access it, so I wait a few seconds then do
Amiga-Amiga-Control or whatever the reboot three finger salute is.
BUT... get this. With WinUAE emulator on Windows laptop, I can stuff that
SD card in it and boot the emulator from the same SD card that runs the
Amiga. I copied all the WHDLoad stuff in via that means, DiskMash
unitilies (DMS files) and other goodies. It's very convienient for moving
stuff onto the system. IIRC I setup the SCSI2SD to look like 4 2GB disks
or something, and I used the diskutil program? to prep em.
Listen to see if the disks are spinning. If not a thunk against the table
should fix.

Good news that it still works hopefully!
