For data recovery purposes, I'm surprised someone hasn't built a flux 
level recorder with an ADC rather than just a digital quantizing buffer. 
  Like everything in this world, floppy disks are analog mediums.  I 
would think a greyscale photograph of the disk is way more useful to 
digital archaeology than 1-bit black or white.
