VICmodem on a Commodore 64.  The free terminal program was so crappy I
wrote my own (at 16).  I think I posted it somewhere because about a
year later, I got tapped to beta test the Commodore 64 Vidtex client
(mixed text and chunky graphics) for CompuServe.

I didn't upgrade to 1200 baud until I was in college and working for
Software Results.
