   To wrap this up, the 192 does indeed do it this way.  You hold down 
Form Feed while turning it on, then use Form Feed and Select to select 
menu items and settings, respectively.

   It's all up and running now.

   And after changing the battery on the printer's board, the settings 
actually stick. ;)
