OT / Free to a good home
by Martin A. Flynn 01 Dec '23

01 Dec '23

Pardon the bandwidth: I have a 900 pair AT&T / AVAYA 110 block to 25 pair Amphenol cable assembly that is free to a good home. Will leave it in the makerspace tagged as free, if no one picks it up by 12/29/2023, it goes in the dumpster.

by Martin A. Flynn 29 Nov '23

29 Nov '23

As part of the technology bucket list, the plan is to cut admin over to the FiOS on 01/20/2024, so we can be rid of the last of the main post cable modems. Assuming InfoAge management provide access to the administration suite (including the secured offices and the attic), the plan is to start around 9:00 AM and wrap by 1:00 PM on 01/20/2024. Stuff I'm bringing to the swap meet Mac IBM Atari & more
by Joseph Giliberti 29 Nov '23

29 Nov '23

Hey Everyone! I'm trying to reduce/condense my collection and am trying to find new caregivers for some of my treasures. I haven't determined pricing on most things, but I will say that I know that eBay sold prices are not usually realistic. Some of what I'll be bringing: - Macintosh II system w/ two video cards and two monitors, keyboard and mouse. Untested. Computer has the logic board from a IIfx, so it's not a true II. There's no battery damage on the board. - IBM PC/AT 5170 w/ EGA card (with memory daughterboard), Ad Lib card and a AT RAMBank card half-filled with 1MiB. Also included is fully-working Model F AT keyboard, which will not be sold separately. Lastly, I have the rare 5154 EGA monitor to complete the set. The computer had been sitting for 25 years prior to my acquiring it and I have never plugged it in. I expect many tantalum caps will pop. - Many monitors of different brands and technologies, most are between 13 and 16 inches, and half are styled to match the IBM PS/2. Nothing is tested, but I will be bringing a Sencore computer monitor analyzer, - Various 8-bit Atari, Apple II and Amiga hardware. - 1979 Stern Lectronamo pinball machine. It's in decent cosmetic condition but it needs board and connector work. It uses a bally boardset. No battery damage. Parts to rebuild all connectors and many capacitor kits are included. New legs are included. I'd like to get $500 for it. I'm not going to bring it unless I have a seriously interested party. - Other various things as I did them out Regards, Joe Giliberti

OT: Youtube & AI at work in video selection?
by Neil Cherry 27 Nov '23

27 Nov '23

(I've also posted this to the CDL list but they are not CC'd here). I've been poking around Youtube entertaining myself with various videos. But while poking around I've been noticing a few trends. The first is the blatant AI made videos. Most are the rather poorly made videos with a very monotone & robotic voice. Some are more noticeable at higher speeds. I tend to watch the videos at 2x speed otherwise I get bored. But much more disturbing is a second trend of what appears to be AI selected videos to a collection of unrelated material. Such as various scientific videos on a doll making feed (weird). Today I started seeing a much more disturbing trend of AI fakes being combined with an unrelated feed. Has anyone else noticed this? BTW, Youtube's AI doesn't seem to work very well as it keeps giving me videos I've already told it I've watched or not interested in. -- Linux Home Automation Neil Cherry kd2zrq(a)linuxha.com http://www.linuxha.com/ Main site http://linuxha.blogspot.com/ My HA Blog Author of: Linux Smart Homes For Dummies KD2ZRQ

IMAC G3 Problem
by Herbert Johnson 21 Nov '23

21 Nov '23

I was gonna post " Davey will find better discussion, in a iMac repair email group.". Sure enough, Davey is in the vcfed.org "early PowerPC Macs" forum, photo and all, with details. Davey focused on the flyback. But it might be useful, to focus on the horiz output transistor. Be sure it matches *brand* as well as part-number. Exact replacement horizontal transistors on CRTs is often necessary - it's an analog circuit that is sensitive that way. But it's odd to see action as described. This may be a more classic "TV" problem, like that transistor. I'll post some details in the PowerPC list. Huge Museum Status Update 2023
by Douglas Crawford 21 Nov '23

21 Nov '23

The Mid-Atlantic campus has been kicking butt for the last year. My main concern is the museum, which has been pivoting into a computing history learning experience in order to hopefully become much more of "thing" on the east coast, appealing to both tech interested & STEM audiences as well as laymen. Here are a set of photos of a recent early morning high school student visit with docent Thomas Gilinksy demonstrating the PDP-8. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1MWbqQhDESH5vS0Z_ZMsbLMLenO5bsUL7?us… Note the poster of Olsen behind the PDP-8, part of a continuing to effort to honor company founders of the equipment we have and tell a bit the founder's and company's history. In the background of photo 2 and 3 you can see the partially completed exhibits of the PC add-in cards angled towards the viewer. We are now routinely doing paper tape loads and demo programs thanks to David Gesswein's dedicated attention to the straight-8 and Rick Lewis's excellent PDP-8 instruction document. We had 45 high school students come through in three groups of 15 early Wed AM with Thomas, Bill I, and myself as docents. Though we only had 1/2 hour with each group, we packed a lot in and they were very very attentive. One student, suitably impressed, came right back with his brother and brother's girlfriend on Saturday. Other things we have going on for visitors to see and do include an expanding suit of software and activities add recently - The Entrance Exhibit is now able to illustrate what logic gates are, how they are used, and how they are made from any given technology from the 40s to the 70s - relays, tubes, transistors, ICs to Microprocessors. and how memory evolved from the 40's to the 70s physical delay lines to magnetics to solid state charge devices. - Also at the entrance of the museum, Thomas's is developing a mechanical calculator exhibit as an introduction to the reason why the ENIAC was necessary. It has become a big hit and really attracts due to the unique tactile and immediate sound, feel and feedback. - A third row has a very nice Intel Moore's law exhibit with not only the processors, but also the accompanying typical memory stick formats and math coprocessors for the era when these were separate products. - Atari ST - Bart has provided 7 programs and some innovative new signage - The Amiga has classic demos including BOING! and ROTOCITY as well as some great game titles. - Mac - Several games and the classic applications, including an floppy drive emulator to have more software available. - TI 99, which used to be relative to the hard to use exhibit "top shelf" was expanded upon by Bart with a text to speach activity and has now been moved to a bottom shelf. - Bart also supplied a Tandy 1000 complete with Deskmate as part of our "GUI user interface" example options, which is also a great DOS game player which is interesting to note bested out the IBM PC Jr. - A beutiful GRiD 1520 now occupies a top shelf sporting an intersting corporate computer example. It has an intact vintage Colgate mobile computing installation. This machine is a great example of the early design type that started the flip up screen format for laptops. - Apple II runs authentic Oregon Trail in color and is a big big hit. A must have that we didn't have until this year. - TRS-80 tape load and programming example, - Osborne - an example of a useful too programmed in BASIC that would have been typical of the day- decimal to binary converter - Newly restored TRS-80 Model III from the warehouse by yours truly - fully working 2 disk drive system that auto boots into the BASIC program that generated a number of screens for the enterprise on Star Trek: The Motion Picture and also the "Big Five" games, and Dancing Demon- an early example of user-definable behavior, foreshadowing things like Pinball Construction set and SIM CITY type software. This also has a functional RS-232 board ready for some communications. - Apple II runs authentic - Apple I - Woz's BASIC and demonstrating what about the Apple I probably stood out making a few investors interested in helping them get to the Apple II. Newly added Kaypro 10, with a fully loaded HD thanks to restoration by Dave Gesswein. - Silicon Graphics machine by Thomas that runs many demos including Jurassic Park items. - Several primers on BASIC, on a single laminated card, that step interested visitors through the joy of programming- One generic that can be used on many different computers, and one specific to the C64. - Many machines have a default demo instituted that the machines are set to run when the museum opens with a card that tells what the computer is running and why it is significant. - Scelbi and S-100 demos will be functional early in the new year. - The IBM PC boots into a typical batch processing menu system with a number of software titles ready to go. - We are also capturing video testimonies of visitors who had interesting careers or were involved at Camp Evans. Future: - We are now anticipating that the top racks will be the home of an exhibit of portable computers. - Plans for machine language activities on "trainers" - Assembly language activities & vintage art, music and productivity tool activities on several C64 computers set up for the purpose. - An BBS system and demonstrations of different computers using a BBS along with a specific museum tour about computer and peripheral communications innovations over the decades. - Creation of a new Mid-Atlantic Vintage Computer USERS group along the lines of user groups of old meeting monthly. - An exhibit demonstration and lecture open house quarterly. And, as the saying goes, much, much more. IF YOU READ THIS FAR, you are probably quite interested in all this. If you have artifacts that you would like to donate to embellish computing history as we are doing- now that you know it is all happening in earnest as per our mission statement (see below) OR if you might considering being a docent in this exciting operation... ... contact me offline. -- Douglas Crawford VCF Mid-Atlantic Museum Mgr InfoAge Science & History Museums 2201 Marconi Road Wall, NJ 07719 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Mission and Vision of the Vintage Computer Federation Museum in Wall, NJ A Computer History Learning Center MISSION To honor and propagate the history of computer innovation by preserving and exhibiting artifacts in a uniquely hands-on experience for the education of the public, edification of our membership, and inspiration of a new generation of thinkers, dreamers, and visionaries. IMAC G3 Problem
by Daveyk021 20 Nov '23

20 Nov '23

Hello, Are there any iMac G3 experts in the group? I have never seen a CRT/TV do this before (I used to work in TV repair, but that was in the late 70s through 1983, so I am a tad rusty. I replaced the flyback and horz output to get this iMac to come on. The unblanking has vertical strips in it, missing video. This one had worked almost perfectly until the first time I turned it off (it was having display size jittering, and some flashing, so I assume the flyback was failing). I doubt the CRT got damaged while sitting on the floor of my storage room for a week or so. I have no idea if this could be the video out of the computer board or the display board. I checked all display board caps before replacing the flyback and horz output. If I changed the OS resolution down to 800x600, the blank vertical lines are still there. Could be a yoke, but the mouse passes through the blank line, like they still there. If I move a window, the window doesn't jump across the lines. So it kind of looks like a really weird unblanking issue. I cannot find schematics for this thing anywhere. [image: image.png]

Workshop Weekend News at the Museum
by Douglas Crawford 20 Nov '23

20 Nov '23

- We have an exhibit high on the wall with some 21 different ISA cards showing the breadth and depth of value that the IBM PC bus brought, and "nod" to Lew Eggebrecht, Chief Engineer on the PC development at IBM, who "wrote the book" on interfacing to the IBM PC. Bart Hirst designed the rack system and 3d printed clips to hold the cards. It is mounted high on the walls and tilts forward to make the view flat to the observer. - A V4 Grease Weasle was generously donated to VCF by Emma Bear Holdings at the last VCF East. I constructed a rig for it from a broken CD duplicator case. The case was nice because of the 5 drive openings and suitable power supply built in. Bart Hirst 3D printed a bracket to hold the grease weasle in the rear opening of the case. It has 5.25 DSDD and 3.5 drive. And room for three more half height drives if we care to expand it. We have cabling for an 8" drive support too, so that should be coming soon to support our S-100 systems. - I started capturing disk images from our only copies of Amiga disks and made some fresh working disks. I'm looking forward to making more great demo software media for PC, CP/M, TRS-80, and others that can be done on the types of drives we have. (We will also have an AppleSause operation soon, too). - There is an intention now to provide instructions at each exhibited computer regarding simplified operation so visitors can run the computers themselves in a more meaningful manor. They will be able to handle the media, do directories to examine the media content, and run programs off the real media. We are OK with this because we will be able to replace the media on demand if anything happens to it. Another great repair workshop! 2023-11-18 & 11-19
by Jeffrey Brace 20 Nov '23

20 Nov '23

A less attended repair workshop, but so much was accomplished that some people actually left early! Usually there are people there until late Sunday night. Lots of fun and learning going on. Seems like a lot of them were working on mechanical machines. Perhaps those who attended can chime in on what they got repaired. We went out to our new dinner hangout which is the MJ's in Tinton Falls, very good food and quiet atmosphere. Everyone enjoyed. I helped get some stuff done in the museum and enjoyed discussing in person with many people different issues. So much better to discuss in person! Thanks! Festivus explained for new members
by Jeffrey Brace 20 Nov '23

20 Nov '23

For those who have become new member since last year's Festivus, this email explains what it's all about. *WHAT IS FESTIVUS?* Festivus is VCF's very casual holiday party. We hold it every December. Usually the 2nd weekend of the month. This year it will be on December 9 & 10. On Saturday we will start at 10AM and go late into the night. Saturday is usually the "main" day where most people show up and Sunday is the extra day for those who stayed overnight. We still hang out on Sunday, but there are less people and it is more subdued. It has always been a social event with other vintage computer friends. Usually about 50 people come. It is a great chance to reconnect with fellow members or make new friends. It is held at InfoAge in the Visitors Center building (A.K.A. Sandy area, the dorms, etc.) for the past few years and will be there again this year. *WHAT DO YOU DO AT FESTIVUS?* *FOOD* - In the past we would barbecue hamburgers, hot dogs on Saturday night and perogies for lunch Sunday afternoon. We are likely to do this again this year. - We would also bring potluck items where everyone brings a food and/or beverage item. This has lessened over the last few years. We may still do that this year. - The current idea is for VCF organizers to buy prepared food to supplement any potluck items that members bring. - Signup sheet for food that you are bringing is here <https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1arqjLWO62XNKAKbbYMiEZQmlxlNn0R4teVX…> *VIDEO GAMES* - We have a game room setup for anyone to setup their video games for everyone to play: Sign up is here. <https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jWjr4FwdX5dMeKR8BSlkvCJpOYa3y6OX-uA…> *SOCIAL* - Fellowship, fun and a time to catch up with friends. *SWAP MEET* - We have a mini indoor swap meet at no extra cost where members can buy and sell with each other. - Swap meet signup is here. <https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1C0e0YwN-p_gl5i249rRBx9LYmyZMce3AqeC…> *COST* - We are likely to charge about $30 for the event which will cover everything. Unlimited food and drinks. We will be sending out a signup form and payment through our website very soon. Cash or credit card on site is also possible. Signing up ahead of time is preferred, but not required. *WHAT ELSE?* - The Steering committee which leads our Mid-Atlantic Chapter usually has a Town Hall where they review accomplishments from the past year and plans for the coming year. This is usually done around dinner time. Any other questions? Please feel free to ask! Thanks! OT / Host site work supporting the TLM-18 Antenna
by Martin A. Flynn 19 Nov '23

19 Nov '23

Was on site yesterday with Bill D working on the Diana site technology "bucket list". * The new network switch is up and running (previous unit was damaged by running the UPS with bad batteries, CDL and Dan Marlow funded replacement batteries. * All four network cameras the Diana site are working. Link to screen shot: http://compdecon.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/diana_site_cams.jpg * Bill D installed the EMP / Lightning protectors for the exterior cameras in the furnace room, final cut over is pending. * The computers supporting the touch-screens were replaced with new units running W11, and mounted in the correct bracket on the back of the touchscreens. Link: http://compdecon.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/IMG_3840-scaled.jpg * The camera cables were cut (again) during landscaping activities by Wall Township. I was able to temporarily splice them, however they need to be re-run. InfoAge needs to purchase at least 100 meters of Belden/Mohawk M57622 outdoor network cable to effect permanent repair . Plan of the day is to wrap up the computer / camera / network tasks, along with installing the console brackets so the work surface can be fitted. If you are available and are interested in helping with the tech work, please contact me off-list. Martin Flynn

Festivus Update! Dec. 9. 2023
by Herbert Johnson 18 Nov '23

18 Nov '23

Jeff, in more than a few words: what changed? What happened? That VCFed can't use the *full kitchen* at InfoAge? Do people need to bring more food, better food? Does someone else need to volunteer to cook burgers and brauts outside in December? Do you need more money to pay for that stuff? If so - ASK. And explain. It's a month out, there's time. Let people know. Regards Herb Johnson -- Herbert R. Fwd: Work on the Diana Site
by Martin A. Flynn 18 Nov '23

18 Nov '23

FYI - I'm pretty livid about this. I'm spending my own money here, and they can't be bothered to let me know in a timely fashion Fortunately Neil was looking out for me as soon and let me know so it would not be a total loss. Martin Flynn -------- Forwarded Message -------- Subject: Work on the Diana Site Date: Fri, 17 Nov 2023 18:56:44 -0500 From: Martin A. Flynn <maflynn(a)theflynn.org> To: Michael Ruane <michael.ruane(a)infoage.org>, john.cervini(a)infoage.org <john.cervini(a)infoage.org>, Dan Lieb <aqualieb(a)aol.com>, Steve Lang <rslng(a)aol.com>, Daniel R. Normally that would not be an issue, however as noted in the multiple emails, I had rented a lift to facilitate the work, ending up with another vendor as our normal vendor (United) could not accommodate the request At 8:45 AM, the equipment had already been loaded on the truck and was in route to Camp Evans. Due to the late notice, I could not cancel the rental flat, and ended up paying for the delivery charge + mileage. The communications failure (either intentional or otherwise) is not acceptable to me as a donor and volunteer, and such, this is the last time I am putting myself in this sort of financial position in an effort to assist InfoAge. Minor mistake to one of the email addresses for the VCF Committee Members to send nominations. Below are the corrected addresses, namely mine, which would inadvertently have been sent to an unrelated parked domain. Sincerely, Jeff Salzman Chairman VCF-MA Steering Committee ---------------- Nominations can be made by simply communicating the nomination via e-mail to a current Committee member: Alexander Jacocks - alex.jacocks(a)vcfed.org, Dave McGuire - dave.mcguire(a)vcfed.org, Douglas Crawford - douglas.crawford(a)vcfed.org, Jason Perkins - jason.perkins(a)vcfed.org, or Jeff Salzman -jeff.salzman(a)vcfed.org <jeff.salzman(a)vcf.org>.

VCF Steering Committee Nominations Now Open
by Jeff Salzman 16 Nov '23

16 Nov '23

Members of the VCF MidAtlantic Mailing List, Another year has passed by, and it's time for the VCF-MA annual Steering Committee elections There are currently two seats becoming vacant; Jason Perkins and Dave McGuire have reached the end of their appointed terms. Nominations to fill those positions are now open. The election will be held according to section 4 and 5 of our published by-laws, listed at the end of this email and linked below. https://vcfed.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/VCFMA-Charter-Jul2022.pdf) Anyone who directly receives this message and has been a member of the VCF Mailing List for at least 30 days is eligible to vote. There is no 30 day restriction to mailing list membership to be nominated as a candidate. Current members of the mailing list in good standing are eligible to submit nominations for Committee member candidates. Nominations can be made by simply communicating the nomination via e-mail to a current Committee member: Alexander Jacocks - alex.jacocks(a)vcfed.org, Dave McGuire - dave.mcguire(a)vcfed.org, Douglas Crawford - douglas.crawford(a)vcfed.org, Jason Perkins - jason.perkins(a)vcfed.org, or Jeff Salzman - jeff.salzman(a)vcf.org) Members of the mailing list may also self-nominate. To be eligible for the election, the prospective nominee must then accept the nomination by replying in the affirmative to the nomination email. One nomination per member can be made. Nominations will close on November 22nd at 11:59PM. An updated list of eligible nominees will be published regularly. Nominees are also encouraged to provide a position statement, which will be posted to the VCF-MA website for prospective voters to read. Voting will commence on November 27th, and will close at 11:59pm on December 8th. Winners will be announced on December 9th during the Town hall event at our annual VCF Holiday celebration. Thank you, Jeff Salzman Chairman - VCF-MA Steering Committee ---------------------------------------- 4. COMMITTEE ELECTIONS Steering committee membership includes representation of VCF membership, as determined by the VCF governing board and VCF-MA sponsored elections. - The committee membership will be determined by elections to be held on a yearly basis (currently November). - Committee membership is ideally comprised of five people but may vary due to changing circumstances. Any committee vote to determine an increase in committee members shall be held within six months after a new election cycle. - A minimum of one seat will be up for election in every cycle, unless additional vacancies create the need for additional seats to be filled, in which case all vacant seats will be up for election in that cycle. - In the event of a tie, a two-week runoff election will be held. - If a tie still exists after the runoff, the non-running committee members will determine a winner. - In the event of a committee tie, the current chairperson or chair delegate will determine the winner. - Nominations for committee members can be made by current members in good standing simply by communicating the nomination to a committee member. One nomination per member can be made. Said members may also self-nominate. - In the case of off-cycle vacancies, the committee may move, without a public election, to appoint by simple majority vote new committee members to fill the seats until the next scheduled election. - A committee chairperson will be appointed by the committee members within 30 days of each completed election cycle. At that time a recording secretary will be selected. - Prospective committee members should be knowledgeable in some aspect of computing, preferably vintage computers, and show a demonstrated interest in vintage computing, computing history, and museum management and governance. - In order to be sufficiently aware and have proper perspective of museum and warehouse issues, prospective committee members should be able to physically attend VCF events at least quarterly and attend meetings regularly. 5. VCF MEMBERSHIP VCF general membership is open and granted to anyone who joins the mailing list. Voting rights will be granted to active list members who join no less than 30 days before an election.

Total Solar Eclipse and VCF East 2024
by Jeffrey Brace 15 Nov '23

15 Nov '23

It has been brought to my attention that there may be a significant number of people that will be traveling to see the total solar eclipse which takes place on April 8 and some will be skipping VCF East. VCF East is scheduled for April 5, 6, 7, 2024 @ InfoAge. The total solar eclipse in the US is a rare event and the next one is in 2044. I already saw the last one in 2018 in Smithville, TN, so I don't need to see another. It was quite an interesting experience. I'd be curious to know what all of you feel about whether you would attend or not based on this information. It's not too late to change the dates, but I would need to figure it out within the next few weeks. Please let me know either in this thread or private mail about your attendance of VCF East or the solar eclipse. Thanks!

Off Topic: Wisconsin couple has tens of thousands of old phones and nobody to buy them
by Christian Liendo 14 Nov '23

So when I told my wife I wanted to buy a house this situation was a concern for her. She said you have this many computers now, imagine you with a house. https://madison.com/news/local/phoneco-wisconsin-telephones-knappen-busines… "The granary constructed in 1903 is full of phones, same with the barn and its silo built in 1957 after a tornado destroyed the original dairy structure. The pole shed from Menards put up in 1979 is filled with telephones along with 33 semi-trailers, some missing their doors and surrounded by junked cars, trucks and campers. One, according to Knappen, holds 1,000 walnut boxes for vintage wall phones. Another is used to store 1,000 steel desk phones."

I did a write up of the donation to Kennett Classic this weekend, of a rare Cramer "cramerkit" https://www.kennettclassic.com/1975-cramer-intel-8080a-microcomputer/ This is an excellent view into what was happening in 1975/76. It was just about the same time as the Apple I was just getting started. The microprocessor was just becoming available and many companies were jumping into the new microcomputer business. Bill

November Workshop Idea - Human Interfaces day
by Ian Litchfield 11 Nov '23

Hello all! It’s been a while since a theme or anything has been used at a workshop. And with the next one coming up in a week I figured it’s more than enough time to try to get one going since it’s the last one of the year! Thomas said he will be working on an IBM Electromatic and that inspired this idea! My idea is to do Human Interfaces. Keyboards, teletypes, printers etc! I’m going to bring my PDP 11/23 and try to get my Model 33 going on it since I recently got an M8017 DLV11-E which can handle 110 baud! I may also drag out the Model 15 and see about messing with that. So if anyone wants to join in with the festivities of a theme next weekend, see what you have that needs work and join us in clunky old machines making far too much noise! I’ll bring some oil, a feeler gauge, service manuals if I can find them for ASR33s I know I have them somewhere.. and toothbrushes. See you all soon! Ian Litchfield

Total Solar Eclipse and VCF East 2024
by Herbert Johnson 11 Nov '23

11 Nov '23

I'm posting, because no one has suggested the *merits* of timing VCF-East adjacent to the April 8th Eclipse. Note that the Eclipse is an early afternoon event on the Monday after Sunday's VCF-East. First. Wall NJ will have almost 90% totality. So if someone stays over Sunday night at VCF, they get an afternoon show without going anywhere, for one more day at their hotel, a skipped workday. They won't see totality, but partials are still impressive. Second. Syracuse NY is on the south edge of totality. Google Maps suggests a 4.5 hour drive from Wall NJ to Syracuse NY, along major highways. For other Eclipse locations, more distance/time, more/less driving convenience. Someone in Wall NJ could drive to the Eclipse zone Sunday afternoon/evening, stay there overnight, drive home Monday evening. (Sunset April 8th 7:40PM local time). They could also drive Monday morning (Sunrise 6:34AM or so) and hope for no travel problems. For some people (not many, for geographic reasons), the Eclipse may be on-the-way to/from VCF-East. But others, they will be on-the-road anyway. Third. VCF-East is a rain/snow/shine event (barring a 'noreaster). Cloudiness alone - just for a few hours - impedes the Eclipse. But weather can only be forecast a few days in advance; hard weather only a week, tops. Yet, a hotel room for the Eclipse totality-zone? Probably they are *already* fully booked. Fourth. The Eclipse will draw more people than the VCF-East event. Don't get mad at me, these are circumstances. But these suggest, it's *strategic* to schedule VCF-East adjacent to the public event of the Eclipse. The Eclipse is the bigger draw. VCF-East gives eclipse-attendees, *something to do before*, on a weekend. And VCF-East is weather-proof, it's a Plan B if you've booked a room but the weather blocks viewing of the eclipse. Conclusion: Eclipse-travelers are a *captive market* for the VCF-East weekend prior to the eclipse. And a *draw* for some VCF-East attendees, on their way to/from, who want to do both. How VCFed Inc. takes advantage of this strategy is for them to determine. But do so soon for reasons stated. Consider contacting places in northern NY state (most adjacent geography to Wall NJ); a geography-directed strategy that in most years won't normally work. It's likely there's already eclipse-directed advertising venues available. Regards Herb Johnson -- Herbert R.
