Do a stack of ESIX System V disks mean anything to anybody here? My understanding is that it's Unix System V for AT&T. I am unable to read the disk contents outside of a PC disk drive.

Wanted: ATV Research Pixie-Verter

Hi, For historical reasons (I'm starting to plan my VCF East 2020 exhibit) I'd like to get real ATV Research PXV-2A Pixie-Verter. I know that there were a lot of other RF modulators out there (I have a SUP "R" MOD II (that I might trade)) but I want this one in particular. Various S-100 boards and other vintage computer hardware available for trade or cash if necessary. I confess to limited direct experience -- my only experience with teaching someone assembly language was teaching _myself_ -- but as far as I'm concerned, the late Jim Butterfield's books would be very hard to outdo. They're written on the assumption that the reader is using an 8-bit Commodore, with some insightful leveraging thereof to simplify tutelage, but the explanations of how and why each assembly-language instruction works are superlative. I always recommend the MOS Technology hardware and software manuals as good starting points for understanding the 6502. Never seen anything better, when it comes to describing how the 6502 works and how to program it. Those two books are all I needed back in the 70s to come up to speed on 6502 assembly programming. I'd suggest some of the online emulators, like: https://skilldrick.github.io/easy6502/ or https://www.masswerk.at/6502/assembler.html The difference here is that these are pure 6502 and no hardware, which yeah does limit you but at least gets your feet wet, and more importantly, you see the status of the registers, memory, etc as you work with it, which isn't as easy on real hardware. >From there then you can perhaps choose a platform (Apple, Commodore, trainer, etc). What would be really cool, is to see if maybe that first link works for you..have him write some code, then transfer that to a real platform, perhaps even burn a rom (if you can) and see it in action. I did this to test the ram on the sound board of a pinball machine that was 6502 based - had it turn on an LED if the ram was bad (it was). Jeff (aka Bags)

Looking for a kid friendly 6502 assembly language book

I’m going to try to see if my 12 year old son might want to learn 6502 assembly. He knows some basic but I want him to learn how computers really work which means he should learn assembly. All my assembly books assume a lot and I figure 6502 is basic enough since he won’t have to worry about memory segments and stuff like that. The best guideline I can think of is... if it’s a book Evan can learn to program in assembly on an Apple II, then it would be perfect for Ben to learn. @Evan, I think you’ll agree here.
