A good chunk of my career was datacom, and I’ve accumulated far too much stuff that needs to be gotten rid of. These are what I am trying to get rid of, and how many: 25M to 25F - 5 of them 25M to 25M - 9 of them 9F to 9F - 3 of them 9F to 25M - 10 of them 9M to 9F - 3 of them RS-232 switch box; three 25F on the rear, select one of two that go to the common. This is just a reminder that there is only one month to go for Festivus. We have only 4 signed up, but know that there are many more interested, but procrastinating. Don’t wait, signup now! Google Sheets are standing by. Last year we had about 40 people. Let’s top that number! The door is marked Sandy Recovery and is up the steps. *PARKING:* InfoAge management wants us to park inside the campus, in a neat orderly row, between the Festivus building and the hackerspace building. The main parking lot remains available for guests of the model train show. Do not cost IA money by leaving it open to confuse paying guests. Always close it behind you when you enter/exit, EVEN IF IT WAS ALREADY OPEN! *COST:* $10 for all members attending Festivus, which VCF pays to InfoAge to rent the space and buy burgers, hot dogs and some supplies. $25 if you are staying overnight. See below for details. *EQUIPMENT:* VCF will have tables setup for food and games. We will have full sized refrigerators to temporarily store food and drinks. Surplus computers @ Festivus

Kelly and I spent about 5 hours working in the warehouse again today. We finished sorting/organizing the Tandy section (reduced from four overflowing shelving units to less than 3) and also the TI section (reduced from 1 overflowing unit to less than 1. We also moved all the surplus items including lots of Tandy/TI/Epson from a pallet onto a shelving unit, so that it's easier to move around between now and Festivus-time. (Another benefit is shelving units use less floor space than pallets, which means more room for THE BIG COMPUTER arriving next week.) What's for sale at Festivus: - Six Tandy Color Computers (various models) - Thirteen TI-99/4A computers (some white, some black/silver) - Two TI Peripheral Expansion Boxes - Nine Epson QX-10/QX-16 (I forget the exact breakdown) - Four Epson monitors and possible one more - One lonely Mac SE None of these are tested. NO TESTING OR TAKING APART WILL BE ALLOWED AT FESTIVUS -- we don't want people tearing into stuff at a social event. Donation amounts for this surplus hardware will be very low, but it's a gamble how they look/work on the inside. Honor system: please don't buy these just to flip them. Kelly not included...

Games ready for Festivus 2018

I was able to test Giana Sisters for the C64 (think Super Mario Bros, but with different sprites) Also got Bomb Mania working, which is a C64 - 4 player game. Yes, 4 player. I have a device that plugs into the user port which allows two more joystick controllers. It's a fun game. Festivus Request: Lunatic Fringe on Macintosh

I would really love it if someone could bring a Macintosh with Lunatic Fringe on it. Lunatic Fringe is an After Dark game. I can't remember if it came with After Dark or More After Dark. A color Mac would be preferable such as an LC II, but anything that works is fine. Epson! Tandy! Full weekend report...

Very good weekend at the museum! Yesterday and today were slow, visitor-wise, but we did lots of other great stuff. Saturday: I brought the Mimeo to the 4th annual Jersey Shore Makerfest. VCF table was busy most of the day. Educated lots of people about the history of Apple and about VCFed/InfoAge. Also got a good lead for a potentially interesting artifact. Today: Kelly organized our Epson collection and most of our Tandy collection. Before, the Epson collection took up 4/5th of one shelving unit and parts of two pallets. Now it's all on a single shelving unit and we put aside eight surplus computers that will be available at Festivus first, workshops (Jan, Feb, March, April) second, and VCF East (May) third. Here's a picture of the surplus machines. (We did not yet sort through the keyboards; no guarantee of those being available.) https://tinyurl.com/y7bh2nq5 No, we didn't leave them stacked like that. The stack was only for the picture. They're very safely in two piles of four computers each. On the Tandy side, before we had four over-stuff shelving units; now it's three, not counting the Model 1 and a CoCo (model 2 or 3, I forget which) both in the museum. I didn't get pictures. This weekend

Tomorrow (Saturday) from 10am-4pm I'm demo-ing the Mimeo at the 4th annual Jersey Shore Makerfest (jerseyshoremakerfest.org) All are welcome to visit. It's in Toms River, NJ (about 20 minutes south of the museum). Jeff B. will be our museum docent. OT: Vintage Tektronix 465 Oscilloscope needs some TLC

I recently picked up a non-working Tektronix 465 Oscilloscope - in great physical shape I might add - in the hopes that I might resuscitate it. My hope was that it was a fuse or the power supply, something I could deal with, but it is apparently more than that. Does anyone on the list have experience with these that might be able to help or otherwise give some advice? - Bob

Earlier I sent out the signup for Festivus. Here is more detailed info: *DATE:* December 1 & 2, 2018 *TIME:* Start about 10 A.M. on Saturday and goes late into the night until everyone sleeps. End about 5 P.M. on Sunday. (Re-starts around 10 A.M. Sunday morning) *LOCATION:* InfoAge Building 9010-D - (2201 Marconi Road, Wall Township, NJ) - It will be straight ahead once you enter through the gate. The door is marked Sandy Recovery and is up the steps. *PARKING:* InfoAge management wants us to park inside the campus, in a neat orderly row, between the Festivus building and the hackerspace building. The main parking lot remains available for guests of the model train show. Do not cost IA money by leaving it open to confuse paying guests. Always close it behind you when you enter/exit, EVEN IF IT WAS ALREADY OPEN! *COST:* $10 for all members attending Festivus, which VCF pays to InfoAge to rent the space and buy burgers, hot dogs and some supplies. $25 if you are staying overnight. I neglected to mention two things. First is on a sad note. Those of you who may have toured through the other museums at Infoage over the years, particularly the military dioramas, would have likely met Ray Morgan, the WWII veteran who volunteered there often. Unfortunately Ray passed away this past Tuesday at the age of 96. He was an awesome man to talk to, and served with distinction at the battles of Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima to name a couple. (His stories were truly engaging about his time in the military) The viewing is tomorrow evening at Ely’s in Neptune. https://m.legacy.com/obituaries/mycentraljersey/obituary.aspx?n=raymond-b-m… Secondly, and on a much brighter note, Bill I. That single visitor from the group showed more interest and genuine enthusiasm than I could have hoped for, and was talking about his next visit when he’d have more time to see other areas and bring family/friends back to see the computers as well. That one visitor can make the day, even if no one else shows up. Got to the museum around 1:30 today. A large group was scheduled to arrive at Infoage at 3, so I figured I’d get up there as early as I could and have the museum open for other visitors as well. The plan was to split the 40-50 visitors into four groups who would then rotate through the museums every half hour. Needless to say that never quite happened! The group members arrived piecemeal, some never came, and a large group or two were put together and never left the main building. Myself and Dan next door in the Military Vehicle Museum had one visitor from the group walk down to us. He was a very interested Computer Engineer who spent a solid 30+ minutes in the museum with me. He was extremely interested throughout the tour and was glad he left the group and came down the road! I directed several people earlier in the day to the vehicle museum and other areas of Infoage, none of which wished to come see the VCF museum. I even tried to lure them in with promises of Model Railroads and Wireless Operators displays, but to no avail. Suffice to say I was pleased my single visitor for the day was a very good one! I’m also pleased to say it’s so much fun being able to see more and more of the machines up and running for visitors. All the major micros on the first shelf are running (Apple II, trs 80, PET, 5150, Lisa, Mac, C64, AT&T Unix PC, NeXT Cube, Etc) plus the HP in the mini section as well as the Univac (Bill D, we need to find out why the diagnostic you showed us how to run gives a program fault now) Can’t wait to see even more machines running in the future!!! IBM Series/1 Collecting?

Hi. All: Over the years, I've owned many systems, going back to 8080-based hardware. I've also had more than a few PDP-11 and MicroVAX systems. I'm now looking for something a little different and could use some guidance. In the early eighties, I worked for a company in NJ that refurbished IBM mainframe systems. They also sold Series/1 mini's. One of the partners was even developing the hardware interface and software for a cartridge tape backup system. For some reason, I now have the urge to play with a Series/1 system of my own. Thinking back, I've seen very little - if anything - about someone owning one. Perhaps there's a good reason for this. I'm also not seeing too much on used systems, peripherals, or software - like languages - I could use to develop some applications. Perhaps there's a good reason for that, too. Is it worth pursuing the acquisition of this old system or is it best left alone? Any constructive advice on this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Cory Sickles

Asante EN/SC adaptor?

People are mentioning my name, regarding Mac SCSI to Ethernet adapters, because I have sold them in the past: http://www.retrotechnology.com/herbs_stuff/m_net.html I don't have any currently, and of course I can be asked privately. I'm interested in buying and in selling them. Many 68K Mac owners want these to "get their Mac on the Internet", so they are not cheap. An AAUI Friendlynet adapter was mentioned. Looking for Tandy 2000 disk and keyboard

All – A friend of mine is trying to restore his Tandy 2000 system, so I sent him a bunch of floppy images in IMD format, but it seems that one of them is corrupted. Specifically, I’m looking for the Videotex Plus disk (26-5260). I also just realized that Bitsavers doesn’t have a Tandy/RS section so at least I want to collect my disk images and upload them there. If anyone has any other disks, please send them to me so I can upload them As a side note, he gave me one of his spare 2000HD systems but it has no keyboard. Unloading help needed week of 10/29

It's about 95% definite that we are receiving a VERY LARGE computer around Halloween-time. I should know 100% sometime tomorrow. I do not yet know which day it will arrive: a truck is bringing it to us from the mountain time zone. It's leaving its current home on the 25th and then I will be able to track it. Estimate is middle of that week. I gave a heads-up to one of InfoAge's forklift drivers, but I will need help!! It's going to be hard work unloading an 18-wheeler and the driver isn't going to wait all day for us. Who can I count on to help that day? Don't leave me to attempt this solo. Everything should be on casters or pallets. I don't anticipate much lifting, but it's the quantity that I fear.

We have a modest amount of visitors today. I had an hour between the museum closing and the IA staff meeting, so I did some warehouse things. There was a part of George that I put with the rest of the analog computing items, and there was a teletype table that goes with an older teletype we already donated to NJARC, so I gave them the table too. Asante EN/SC adaptor?

Hey all, I have an interest in getting an Asante EN/SC adaptor (SCSI-to-Ethernet adaptor for Mac), and I suspect at least one of you (*cough* Herb *cough*) might have one I could acquire or purchase for a modest sum. Any version is fine; regular, mini or micro. Ideally I'd like a working one. If it helps, it's for the greater good: I want to reverse engineer and replicate it, as well as try and write some drivers for NetBSD, since it's one of the only reliable ways to get early PowerBooks on Ethernet. - Dave

Festivus 2018 - Movie room

So the last two years we didn't really do movies, but I'm considering it again. The reason is that we don't use the big dorm room (called the women's bunk room), so we can setup our 100 inch projector screen, lights off and project movies or TV onto it in that room. This way if you want to go see a movie or TV show (i.e. Whiz Kids) you can do it. If you don't want to see movies, then you can stay in the main festivus area.
