Willow Auction House's "bat computer" seems to be one of three almost identical units. Estimated sale prices in the hundreds of dollars each. The auction descriptions say > Replica Batcomputer Head in 1:1 scale, modeled after the Batcave computer consoles in the original television series. Mixed media including fiberglass, acrylic, and electronic components. Design based on the 1950s Burroughs-Electrodata B205. Mounted on clear acrylic platform. Electronic lightbulb displays are tested and working, displaying pre-set flashing light patterns. 15" H x 34" W x 10" D. Light scuffing and wear to casing. Web search finds eventually, clear enough images of the various variations of the 1966 Batman TV series "bat computers" in the Bat Cave. https://66batman.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7564 One of these images shows a small console atop a larger console, that pretty much matches the auction units. I did not check for the "portable" version used in some Batman episodes. So these are replicas of a prop of a blinky-light toggley computer console from the 1966 Batman TV show. It would be a skills-challenge to make another one today. But with a found cabinet, surplus parts and a computer minimill to cut the front panel it could be done. I'll add two more: - A Dr Who episode in the 1980s showed the Master pulling a recording of all of history out of the TARDIS... it was a rather convoluted tape carrier, as big as he was. (I think the idea was it was supposed to be like a map, so you'd know where in history you were... but it was a tape. Even Isaac Asimov's stuff set thousands of years in the future tended to assume everything would be on tapes, or in some cases microfilm.) - We "turn out" the lights, even though they generally haven't been gas-powered since the nineteenth century. Hello all, This evening, the MARCH steering committee will be opening our second bimonthly meeting to the public for an open town hall. We're interested in trying to make this a regular occurrence, in the interest of better communication with the rest of the membership at large. The meeting will begin at 7:00 PM EST and will run for an hour and a half. Our (rough) agenda will be as follows: * Roll call * Managerial reports * Old business * New business * Town Hall Q&A session While every MARCH committee meeting is open to be attended by anyone who requests, in practice this is typically limited to the committee members, managers, and a handful of other local volunteers who are most closely involved in the day-to-day operations of MARCH at infoage. Oftentimes there appears to be a bit of a disconnect between this core group and the wider membership regarding the realities of what's going on "down on the ground" so to speak, and hopefully these more broad-focused meetings can ameliorate that. How do I value these Mac clone things?

First off, I'm sorry for sending out this kind of email. I typically don't place a lot of worth on determining monetary value on vintage machines because that's not why I'm in the hobby. However, my recent haul seems to has generated a lot of interest on a Macintosh collector facebook group and I don't know how to proceed. I went and picked up a lot of Mac hardware from a storage unit cleanout in Reading, PA via Facebook Marketplace. I was interested because of several Mac IIcI and various Quadras, but I also ended up with 5 "Micromac," machines, which seem to be repackaged compact Macs in desktop cases with external monitor ports. They can be seen here: https://ibb.co/vC2qM6d9 I posted to get more information on a Facebook group and got several responses that are more or less, "I need to have one! Take my money!" Now, this surprised me. I cannot find any comparable sales on ebay or Worthpoint to base a price on. I don't want to price them unreasonably, but I also don't want to give them away. Can anyone advise me as to what they might be worth? Based on the clamor for them, I plan on donating one to our museum if we don't already have one. I'm going to further evaluate what I have today. As far as I can tell, four are re-packaged SE's and one is an SE/30. I'm assuming when I open them up that at least one of them will be battery bombed, because that's life. How do I value these Mac clone things?

I've sold compact Macs for many years, and I never heard or came across "micromac" cases for SE or SE/30 motherboards. That appears to be what these are: powered cases for the mobos. I'm not sure how someone found B/W monitors to be driven by these unmodified boards. Either the product includes some video circuits to accommodate more-common monitors; or someone made custom monitors for it. I don't know the product - inspection will be informative. Worst case - use a motherboard-less Mac SE/Plus/SE-30 and drive its monitor. Web search for "micromac" finds a service company that makes/sells Mac upgrades; not the same company?, no info there. Also a name for a Rasp Pi Pico emulation of the compact Macs. So it's hard to find information on the prior company & case product. Simple math tells me total value depends on working condition of the items in it plus physical condition of case plus intangible "gotta have" value. I myself would find an answer to obtaining a monitor, and of course evaluate working state, before I'd price and offer them. The floppy drives would need servicing for certain. TRS-80 Model 102 stuff

Hello! Okay yesterday I was indeed able to work out how to move files between this laptop and the TRS-80 Model 102 I own. It involved DOSbox and a serial cable who used the FTDI chipset and a nullmodem connector. DOSbox was setup to be a slow 80386DX. And running the unique software that the company commissioned I was able to basically do that. Ironically the disk drives the thing uses, and I do not have here were the same ones that Brother optioned for their knitting machines. The unit uses for memory a 6264 chip which I know is a static RAM chip organized the same as the EPROM 2764. I stuck one of mine in, and it seems to have found it. What would have used 64kB Simms?

I'm going through some old stuff I have, and came across some 64 kilobyte and 256 kilobyte simms. The earliest Simms I really remember using were 1MB for 386/486 computers though I could see 386s using the 256kb. Earlier than that I've touched a few 286s with sipp and simm slots, but even they were typically aiming for "the full 640KB". But most XT/286 products I touched had individual ram chips socketed or soldered on board. What devices would have used 64KB Simms back in the day? There are 9 chip as well, so I assume parity.

Inspection of the poster's video collection shows this - go immediately to their list of videos. Every few days in a MONTH, they posted the same subject (fifty facts) about a total of 21 US states. That and two videos about town-factoids. Only AI could produce that much content in a month. I don't even care about validating the facts or not. But the fastest way to make that determination, is to stop the video, click on "closed captioning", and click on "transcripts". - I can read text faster than I can watch and listen, no ads too. a momentary glance thru the NJ transcript, suggested some errors, confusing "the tri state" with New Jersey specifics. If I want to search the Web about New Jersey for purpose, I'll do so and have done so. There are any number of researched, referenced and maintained Web sites about features of New Jersey. Why do I care about Web site or video-content quality? I work hard to produce content on my Web site. Of course I consume Web content. I read this email list, among other reasons, for quality content. Degraded content lowers the bar and reduces expectations and distorts one's knowledge - just like eating excess candy changes your food patterns and is ultimately unhealthy (but profitable for candy producers). Also - when AI's "scrape" my content, their posted version of my content robs *my site* of "eyeballs". I'm saying: I have skin in this game. So this YouTube site is not a reliable site for New Jersey factoids, or any factoids. It's a vehicle for ads (revenue to the video producer) and eyeball-bait (increased value for ads). Sharing such video sources (sorry) propagates the AI-generated-media virus, as I've described. I've posted my considerations and process, so others can use the same process to evaluate the flood of AI-generated semi-factual content we are now subjected to. People can consider (and disagree about) my considerations but let's be clear-eyed about what's behind whatever "media" we consume. In a vacuum, I absolutely love it, but "stepping on consignment" is a real concern as commission paid on sales is a not insignificant source of operating revenue for the Fest. I understand that attendees trade on the side/sly, friend to friend, and I'll admit I've made a parking lot sale or three over the years. Hey everyone. I was chatting a bit about this on the VCF Discord '#for-sale' channel, and got some good feedback / interest, so I'd like to toss it out here and see if we want to raise up the visibility a bit. I wrote an application called ClaimIt. It's designed for communities that tend to have focused interests, and are more interested in sharing and supporting the community than making a quick buck. The idea is to have a place to search, browse, and, well, CLAIM items that people are giving away or selling. The most important aspect is that you can SEE if someone has claimed an item or not (so this prevents the 'Is this still available???' responses), and if so, you can put yourself down as an alternate, so the seller can say "Well, bob claimed this, but he flaked, so dave, it's yours." https://claimit.stonekeep.com/ There's a VCF community there already (I only have one item there), but in the lead up for VCF East, is this something we'd like to encourage people to use? Now, one of the things I've been avoiding is making it 'yet another site i have to go look at' - to that end, it can email you when things are listed in a community, and will email you when someone claims one of your items. I forgot if I posted this before. I found it under email "drafts". The Bellmac32 processor was probably the last processor by AT&T/Western Electric/Bell Labs, following the adventures of the Bellmac-8, Hobbit, Crisp and other processors. It was used in the 3b2 series of minicomputers, a single-board computer, VME card and the AT&T/Teletype 5620 graphics terminal. I chronicled some of it here: http://ferretronix.com/tech/3b2/index.html Wikipedia seems correct with: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blit_(computer_terminal) The Blit programmable bitmap graphics terminal was designed by Rob Pike and Bart Locanthi Jr. of Bell Labs in 1982. The Blit technology was commercialized by AT&T and Teletype. In 1984, the DMD (dot-mapped display) 5620 was released, followed by models 630 MTG (multi-tasking graphics) in 1987 and 730 MTG in 1989. The 5620 used a Western Electric 32100 processor (aka Bellmac 32) and had a 15" green phosphor display with 800 x 1024 x 1 resolution (66 x 88 characters in the initial text mode) interlaced at 30 Hz. The 630 and 730 had Motorola 68000 processors and a 1024 x 1024 x 1 monochrome display at 60 Hz (most had amber displays, but some had white or green displays).

MARCH Workshop Cancellation Notice

We’re sorry to inform you that the MARCH Repair Workshop planned for February 7–8, 2026 at the InfoAge campus is being canceled. Even though the big snowfall that hit the area was more than a week ago, the persistent freezing temperatures have kept a surprising amount of snow and ice in place... especially in the areas needed for safe public access to the Workshop space. Since InfoAge relies on volunteer staff, and this particular accumulation has been unusually tough to clear, there’s still too much snow and ice covering the areas and paths needed for parking and pedestrian access to the Workshop room. As a result, we’re making the call to cancel the Workshop as a safety precaution. The good news is that we fully expect everything to be cleared or naturally melted well before the next scheduled Workshop on March 21–22, 2026. I found some different 16 pin chips but have yet to build a circuit to try it out. I don't think any of the reproduction boards have been using the tin cans unless that's all they could get. I've not seen any (which doesn't mean much). The OP posted prototype from when Woz was fist building the Apple I.
