DVRA's swapmeet appears to run only from 11AM to 2PM. It also appears to be more of an intra-club event. Their posting states that "club members are welcome to set up." Those kind of swapmeets are common with radio clubs, where members can barter and deal amongst themselves. My local club does that once or twice a year. Well apparently the DVRA club is having their “Swapmeet” on the 24th also. I am pretty sure they knew that VCF is having theirs on the 24th which is certainly not fair to have it the same day. At least they don’t have a rain date the next day. But the good part is that they are 45 miles away, approximately! So I doubt if anyone is going to be making a trip to both of the swapmeets on the same day. I hope we’re not losing vendors and “customers” to them. Mike R. Hello! Why Mike what are you selling? (Kidding, I looked at the entries.) In my cases besides those examples of logic, I am trying to find a very old by the standards of today, but certainly appropriate for this list, handheld. It was designed either by, or for, the OEM behind Seiko, sometime during the early part of the 1990s, about the time two things happened, one was the sudden importance of being able to collect data via handhelds, that of barcodes, and that those bounders at Microsoft released their MSDOS6.22 to the embedded device market. That market did nothing with that OS as they were waiting to evolve for a different OS altogether. It would have been traveling with an SDK for the methods, and even an appropriate laptop since the thing used PCMCIA cards for storage of data. I tried out one of them then, since I did not have the appropriate laptop and cards, and code, I wasn't able to hand it information to run with it, but now the <BLEEPING!> thing is now I do. Including a reason. Swap Meet Update

We have about 30 people signed up with about 40 spaces reserved. One guy is an electronics scraper and is taking 5 spaces and a 20 foot truck! He will be bringing all sorts of parts for machines mostly. I expect there to be more signups "at the gate", but at least many of you are already signed up ahead of time. So lots of excitement is going on in many corners of our realm about this event. 10 Day weather outlook shows partly cloudy and 64 degrees. Let's hope it stays that way. I will keep checking it as we get closer and the prediction gets more certain. If your source is tape-video with only NTSC channel 3/4 out, then get a USB tuner dongle. Again; ebay, cheap, obsolete. Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-950 does NTSC and ATSC. Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-850 does NTSC. Of course, ATSC and an antenna lets you watch and record over-the-air content. 720 and 1080 resolution too. If you are a Linux-fan, fine. Same hardware, same software suggestions. I was a big minidisc user, mainly for dumping stuff from my SGI Indigo into a minidisc deck over coax digital then using it in the car. I actually have a MDS-E10 on my want list for VCF ;-) When you say store programs, do you mean like dumping cassette files from 8bit computers to minidisc? The original format was a ~130MB MO disc that usually held compressed audio using a codec called ATRAC. ATRAC 1 didn't get a lot of love which hurt the format in the USA but ATRAC 3 and 4 and stuff were fine. There was a later HDMD disc that holds like 600MB and I believe there was a computer drive for that where you could store data. They are rare. Not sure if there was a direct computer storage drive for the 130MB discs? Because Sony also owns a record label they are weak, and hurt the format by not making it better for piracy. Computer connected decks that could easily dump mp3s to them would have been really popular. They had the NetMD stuff but I think it was just a USB sound card that dumped it, and I don't know if it had easy titling or not. Neat format though. The discs are cute. - Ethan

A TV show is looking for particular props for their show. Some of them we have, some of them we don't. Even the ones that we have, we probably don't have in the quantity that they need. This is the typical little portable cassette machine used to play and record tapes, and sometimes used by the vintage computer people to load and save programs. It's in excellent physical condition. Runs on C batteries or 120AC using the included line cord. I have not tested this. It's been packed away for 33 years. I will ship if you pay shipping. I need advice how to best digitize video, mostly standard def TV/NTSC of VCF events. I have several USB dongles that take composite and S-video. They may be adequate, but I don't know what one's really best. I also have several DVR (digital VCR): Tivo, Sonic Blue replay-tv. Did those have good front-ends or was most of the attention to the subscription service? I know they need to be "jail broken" to work like VCRs. There's no big red "just record NOW!" button :-( thanks -- Jeff Jonas

So far 21 people have signed up as vendors taking a total of 28 spaces so far. I have been spreading the word far and wide to many different places. If you know of a spot that I haven't touched, then let me know. I still have a few places to put the word out. I have heard from many people that they are excited about the event from both vendors and potential buyers. It will be nice to see not only faces that I see every month at the repair workshops, but others who come once a year and that I haven't seen for a while. A friend from the NJ Linux group helps with TDI Connect (formerly the Trenton Digital Initiative (TDI)) http://tdiconnect.org/TDIConnect_PCDonations.php They refurbish computers and supply them to schools and those in need. They really need: USB mice, USB keyboards, monitors, etc. I'll gladly collect any such "leftovers" from the the Swap Meet and forward them (unless Ian Finlay can be there to collect directly). VCF Museum on Wheels!

We have been planning to have a mobile museum for a long time and Covid-19 has inspired us to implement this plan faster. At first we were looking into getting a bus inexpensively because a lot of the schools needed the extra cash, but we found a great partnering program in our investigation. We have partnered with Tesla for funding so we were able to get an electric bus. So will be renovating our new bus into a mobile vintage computer museum! We still have to decide on which computers we will have in this museum and periodically change them out. This is a great chance to be able to take our museum *to* the schools instead of the other way around. Plus it is Covid-19 regulation compliant with a limited number of students on the bus at one time. Many schools will be having more cash available for programs like this due to the Covid-19 relief package passed by Congress, so they will have money available for extra programs like ours. Over the next few months we will be retrofitting our bus and hope to have it ready by September. PEP Modular Computer

I have just pulled out my PEP Modular computer with a 68K KA. I think it has 1M of RAM and possibly 13 serial ports (9, 15 and 25 pin ports). I think this also has a parallel port of two but isn't broken out. I haven't tried to start it yet. I need to remove the drives, let them warm up and see if they work. There is one floppy which I think is a 800K drive and two hard drives. I'll boot the machine and see if I can get into the ROM monitor. VCF volunteers have gone through the warehouse this past weekend and found a number of nice surplus items that will be sold at the swap meet. Museum Report 2021-03-31

Typically Wednesdays are slow, but today there was an avalanche of people! 212 people to be exact. Apparently today was Passover Day of Learning so there were a lot of Lakewood residents visiting InfoAge and all the museums. I arrived at 2PM and helped out Bill Inderrieden. We tag teamed the groups of visitors coming in. It was a steady flow of people from the moment I got there at 2PM until 5PM when we had to close. Wanted: Atari 800XL mobo, Amiga 600 mobo (needs repair is ok)

Hello all, Two projects that have been kicking my butt... an Atari 800XL motherboard repair and an Amiga 600 motherboard repair. I'm interested in an 800XL board, and it can be incomplete! Missing a custom chip or two? Not an issue. I have a great case and a board that looks great but it crashes. Something physical, and it might be a trace that is split but not visible or a passive. All the customs tested fine and I've tested like 80% of the common chips and they were fine. Second up... Amiga 600 motherboard. I am repairing one, looking for another one. Okay if it needs repair. These suffer cap damage and I've spent hours and hours trying to fix mine. It's really not much better than an A500, and I have a A2500 and A4000T that are better. but I miss having it working. Any leads appreciated. Just tired of seeing the systems in parts.
