Someone alerted me by e-mail the following message: "I am reaching out to spread knowledge about a large batch of 'new-old-stock' vintage z-80 systems <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zilog_Z80> in storage near Worcester, MA. I am not the seller but came across this local listing a couple weeks ago. After some communication with the seller, I found out that he has more than 2,700 units and is running out of indoor storage. These units are brand new and are being sold for $20 per unit and in bulk for a lower price. They are currently stored outside with minimal weather sealing/protection. I am not affiliated with the seller and have already secured my own unit but I am reaching out in an effort to possibly save these units before they are destroyed by the winter elements. Maybe you know people who have the capacity to take some of these units in? Next VCF Swap Meet: June 10, 2023

So I'm choosing June 10, 2023 as our next swap meet. Semi-OT: Packing CRT monitors for shipping.

Greetings, Several years ago, I picked up a large collection of generic looking CRT computer monitors for free and have stored them for some reason. I guess it's paying off since it seems monitors with Sony Trinitron tubes are worth their weight in... not quite gold but something that's worth a lot. One that I'm getting ready to list is a later model Sony 19-in flat CRT which weighs at least 75 lbs. I'm planning on strongly encouraging local pickup but otherwise offering shipping within the continental US. I have successfully shipped CRT monitors before, with massive amounts of bubble wrap, packing peanuts and double boxed into high strength cardboard boxes. I've never shipped any monitor this large and this heavy before. Would you think cardboard is still an option or should I be looking at freight shipping in a wood crate? Thanks, Joe Giliberti

VCF IBM 1130 Fundraiser - Update

We are looking to repair and restore this machine to operating condition. To accomplish this, we will need two things: Funds to repair and an expert to repair it. He is well known in the vintage computer community as a renown and accomplished expert in restoring IBM 1130 computers <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sDRw9mLkHX4>. After several weeks, we have not achieved our goal of $6000 and our deadline of October 31 to take advantage of our scheduled transportation. Our IBM 1130 has been on display for several years at The Vintage Computer Museum in Wall, NJ at InfoAge Science and History Museums (formerly Camp Evans). The IBM 1130 is an early example of what became commonly known as minicomputers (smaller than room-size); one computer for one person. It is also unique in the sense that there are only a small number in existence, and few are functional. We take pride in the fact that many, in fact most, artifacts displayed in our museum are functional and provide an interactive experience for our museum visitors. We now have an opportunity to add the IBM 1130 to the list of functional artifacts! A long-time friend of VCF who lives in Florida, Carl Claunch, has experience in successfully restoring these computers to a functional state. Mr. Claunch is not able to travel to us to perform the work, so we need to transport the computer to and from his residence. As you can imagine, this presents various challenges, but we believe this is a very worthwhile effort. To ignore this opportunity to engage with this expert would be a regrettable, permanent loss for our museum. To move forward with this project, *we need your support*. We need to raise approximately $6,000 to cover shipping and other expenses involved in the repair. Funds donated will be used for expenses related to this repair project and operating costs of the IBM 1130 computer. Funds received that are in excess of the needs of this project will be directed to the restoration and preservation of other artifacts in our collection. We need to acknowledge that, in a project like this, there is no guarantee of success. We cannot predict issues that may occur during transportation. Additionally, insurmountable problems may be revealed during the repair process that would cause the computer to remain non-functional, and there could be other issues that we can only imagine. Help NEEDED for network wiring 10/29 & 10/30 @ InfoAge

Hey everyone, CDL will be needing help with wiring up various buildings with fibre. This helps not just our organization, but InfoAge as a whole. He is replacing the coaxial that is unreliable and goes to our museum and other buildings. Plan is to start on Saturday (10/29) AM at 9:00 AM and run until 4:00 PM (may go later) If we don't wrap up on Saturday, will start work on Sunday (10/30) AM at 10:00 and run until 4:00 PM (may go later) Two additional people would be a great help, there will be work in the attics of 9010 and potentially 9036. Martin is leading this effort, but if you are interested, then contact me and I will put you in touch with Martin.
