by Jeffrey Brace 04 May '26

As you can see from this picture: https://vcfed.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Swap_Meet_Map_VCF_Brookdale-1.… The swap meet will be in a new location (right across the street from the old location). We are renting Brookdale's parking lot. So the price per space is now $25 per space and no discount for additional spaces. General Admission is still $5. Please read this first before asking questions as all the info is here: https://vcfed.org/vcf-swap-meet/ Take care! Jeff Brace VCF Fundraising Manager

Re: Printers was MSDOS

I had a model 32 teletype at my Exhibit this year, which I think sometimes got more interest than the actual exhibit. It was mistaken for a 33 as they look similar but very different inside. I almost brought an epson dot matrix to print weather maps but ran out of table and car space. I also bought the Next laser printer in the consignment, we'll see if I can get it going. It would be cool to do a big focus on printing! Jeff

Lost Fluke in CDL (VCF East)
by CJ Reha 02 May '26

02 May '26

Hi all, This is perhaps a bit embarrassingly late, but I'm finally getting unpacked from VCF East and realized my Fluke multimeter is missing. I was using it for a time in the CDL to work on a few CRT monitors, and I think in the fog of confusion surrounding the unfortunate events on Sunday I may have left it in there by accident. If anyone sees a kinda dirty Fluke 87 III with a nice set of Pomona probes please let me know! Frankly I care a lot more about the probes than the meter, they were expensive!! :) All the best, CJ

Wish I could have been there but just couldn't. Does anyone have pictures/video of the whole thing up yet? I'd love to see some of the Ohio Scientific exhibits. Thanks, Bill S. -- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. www.avast.com

UU NET archives
by Gregg Levine 01 May '26

Hello! Back around the early days of Linux, I ran a 2.2.18 kernel setup on a Dell. It was connected to the Internet via an external modem, (the Dell normally ran Windows 98SE and the modem was an internal Windows only one.) I would from time to time visit the FTP site behind UU NET and noted the presence of compressed source code archives. I would then download any of them, and extract them appropriately, they were SHAR archives, and I was able to do so. Naturally not all of them would work. That is to compile using the tools found in those days. I do not even think they will work today. Naturally when the vendor behind the site was bought by Verizon, I noted that it all went away. Would anyone besides Dave M, know where the site was saved to before it was turned off by mistake. (I wrote and asked Dave M directly.) Oh and the dino is asleep until July. ---- Gregg C Levine gregg.drwho8(a)gmail.com "This signature was once found posting rude messages in English in the Moscow subway."
