https://www.ebay.com/itm/225037349724 looks to be a ASR-35 (Heavy duty ASCII) The outside is so dirty that I can't read the keyboard markings, to eliminate it being a model 28 , but it looks good on the inside. Need help with audio processing from VCF West 6 (2003)

Kay Savetz was able to successfully recover most of the talks from VCF 6 2003 with the help of Clay Cowgill. There are still some talks that are troublesome, so we are looking someone who is an expert at magically transforming audio issues. The issue as described to me is as follows: The audio is in WAV format, recorded poorly. Needs filtering, EQ, and magic. Audio levels range from normal to extremely low. Some of the audio levels seem to fade in and out even within the same sentence. Noise includes a 60hZ hum, and sometimes buzzy static — sometimes the static is significantly louder than the voice. Speaker sometimes too far away from the microphone. In summary, the audio ranges from “not bad, but I wish that buzzing would go away” to “what? what did they say?” If you know of someone that can help, then please let me know. Old "beige boxes" free to a good home

They're not all beige, but most of them are. These are "too new" for the museum, but I figure some of you are fixing up 1990's boxes so you can demo Windows 3.0 or Desqview or Linux installed from floppies. These are mostly early Pentium boxes (one Athlon). Some are empty cases, most have motherboards. Most have no hard disk. The item numbers match the numbers on the units in the photo. I'm happy to supply better photos or more information. Floppy drives are 3.5" except box 10 which has a 5" floppy. All the units are in Jackson, NJ. Shipping OK at your cost, or I can deliver to central NJ. Take one, take all, the rest will be scrapped, as much as I hate to see things go to landfill. Note that No. 11 has monochrome video and includes an amber monochrome monitor. It was my home router for many years, hence the 3 Ethernet cards. It used to boot Linux Router Project off the floppy. It runs the BIOS code successfully, but it won't boot because the cmos battery is flat. (NIC == ethernet) I don't want to start breaking these units and sending people things like floppy drives; If you want a floppy, take the whole box and deal with the rest of it. (That is my position at present.) 1. mini tower: 1 GHz cpu, 2 HD, floppy, CDRW, NIC, sound, video 2. mid tower w/DVDRW, otherwise EMPTY. Transparent side panel, built in handle on the top; apparently for the "gamer" market. 3. mid tower Pentium II, NIC, sound, video. Has HD in a removable carrier, plus a second empty carrier. (I need to find one of those stupid little barrel keys so I can unlock the carrier that has a drive in it.) 4. Dell mid tower: silver front, Celeron, no RAM, has DVDRW, HD, Vista license sticker 5. "Athlon 64 3000+" 2GB RAM 3" floppy SCSI CDROM mid tower 6. Acer "1120SX", but replaced original mother board with 386 motherboard (no HD/CD) floppy, NIC, video; small desktop form factor 7. Packard Bell pizza box: 200M Pentium CDR floppy 850M HD 8. Compaq mid tower: Pentium RAM floppy video 9. "Comtrade" mid tower: AMD K6 233 sound, NIC, Tseng video, 192k RAM ASUS MB (if the post-it note is to be believed). 10. Gateway 2000 tower: DVDRW 5" floppy, otherwise EMPTY 11. In searching the Web for it, I came across this obituary of Dave Smith, who passed a week ago. Known as a synthesizer designer of the late 70's, turns out he collaborated with Roland to create the MIDI specification. This is a little out of my interests; but MIDI is really familiar to anyone who did personal computing and digital audio instruments in the 80's. Maybe arcade games too, that's how they sounded. MIDI is both a simple cabling and serial interface to connect digital audio instruments to a computer; and a specification for codes to represent instruments, tones and duration. Something between sheet music and a piano roll. The instrument renditions are pretty simple: square and triangular waveforms with envelopes. Not a hard program to write in 8-bit assembler, a simple D/A, even a 1-bit R/C network. It's incredibly data-compact to represent a song by notes and instruments. That mattered with 70's and 80's computers and later with consumer electronic piano keyboards, drumsets, etc. But to this day, a Web browser and most audio playback programs can play a MIDI file. So I thought I'd give a shout-out as I'm listening to a MIDI theme from Duke Nukem. MIDI piano works pretty well too, there's lots of piano-roll to MIDI out there. Help identifying Model 100 expansion board

I hope there’s a few TRS-80 Model 100 aficionados in the group! I’m in process of going through my Model 100 collection items, and came across a small circuit board. I’m not sure if it’s a RAM or ROM expansion. It’s labeled “PG Design” with “Model No. 000132” on a sticker plus “HE-3-V0” etched on the circuit board. Photos in the shared directory below. Does anyone have any idea what this might be? PACE is a microprocessor name, but in this case I think thr PACE EAI's were transistor systems. Kind of like as guitar lamps switched from tubes to transistors, so did some analog computers. A new RPG was released in 2020: Nox Archaist. It was a labor of love by an attendee of Kansasfest who had a lifelong dream of producing one. Lots of other people contributed to making his dream a reality. I worked on the Mockingboard music for the game. Looking for Apple II RPG's to play

Note, I've already played (on usually Atari platforms, sometimes DOS): Ultima 1-5, Bards Tale 1-3, Autoduel, some Infocom games, Phantasie 1-3, Roadwar, Seven Cities of Gold, Kings Quest, and Space Quest series.. What other or unique RPGs should I check out for the Apple II platform? Thanks! John

A better question might be "why do some people freak out when things are shown to have value". I just had this conversation yesterday on another mailing list about the Cyclops camera (just the camera head, no boards) that sold for about $2500. "The market has spoken". In this case, I would posit the main reasons for the high price are historical importance (in multiple contexts) and rarity. People don't bat an eye when someone drops serious coin on an old car or an old piece of jewelry. Why should technology be any different? It has arguably made a far deeper impact on society than either cars or jewelry. Good Morning All, Since I have recently rekindled my love for vintage computers. My collection of vintage computers have slightly increased. I am now in search of an old school 5.25" Floppy Disk Notcher. After a brief search online, availability seems to be very limited(as one would expect). Any suggestions on how to obtain one would be greatly appreciated. Also, I realize that there might be a 3d printed option, but sadly I do not currently have access to a 3D printer. Neil/ Sentrytv, Thanks for the ideas, Both would be good options, however I have Cerebral Palsy(with some spasticity issues). Holding an exacto knife may end up badly in my particular case :-) LOL A notcher would be the better option. But I do appreciate the ideas though. Dave - I completely agree. If you know what you're doing you'll identify things that will be valuable in the future, rather than chase things that are already valuable or what other people say is valuable. Before they're highly valued buy two, keep one for yourself and sell the other one. capitalism. Even smarter ignore what other people say is valuable and find value in what you already have. Folks, I have a Tektronix Scope-mobile model 202-2 with drawer and module storage. It is in relatively good shape, and the bed tilts and the drawer works. It’s a big scope cart on wheels. I need to get rid of this, and if no one wants it, I will send it to the metal recyclers, as I don’t have a big scope, and it’s taking up valuable shop space. My collection includes mostly 8-bit stuff: TRS-80 Models I, IV, M100, etc. - Atari 400, 800, Portfolio, ST, etc. - C64/VIC20 - T/S1000 (including an unbuilt kit), Apple II, II+, IIe, IIe Platinum, IIgs - Wang WLTC - Mattel Aquarius - TI-99/4A - many others that I still have to dig out - plus lots of peripherals, disks, manuals, etc. Also have some newer Macs starting with a Mac Plus in an Apple carrying bag. I'm starting with you guys before trying to list elsewhere, although I may hit some of the dedicated FaceBorg pages (such as for Aquarius and Apple II.) I'm willing to ship some of the smaller items, but in general systems or monitors will need to be picked up here (near the Fort Washington exit of the PA Turnpike) or nearby, and cash or PayPal for payment. I may also consider trades for some of the video game stuff I'm looking for. It pains me to do this, but the clutter is getting out of hand, and I haven't touched most of these in years.
