No more overnight sleeping at InfoAge

Wall Township has decreed that the Sandy bunk area may no longer be used for overnight stays. They say that it is an insurance liability. InfoAge has been trying to convince them that it isn’t a problem. InfoAge will lose money over this. This is very disappointing and I know frustrating to those who have used the inexpensive volunteer stay over. There’s nothing VCF can do at the moment. VCF and InfoAge will continue to try to convince them, but for the time being no one can sleep overnight in that area. So unfortunately volunteers will have to find a hotel or other arrangements for overnight stays. VCF's latest rescue: PDP 11/34 from Wilmington, NC

Our rescue of a DEC PDP 11/34 from North Carolina. Last used at the Slim Jim factory in Garner, NC. Our volunteer drove a uHaul truck from InfoAge to Wilmington, NC and back. Funding for this rescue was from our June 2024 swap meet. We had raised $800 from surplus artifacts that paid for this rescue. The bunkhouse is still there and not expected to go away. It's just that the overnight stays VCF (and other on-site organization's) volunteers had the privilege of using has been suspended. This is more than just a festival issue. Many volunteers stay over every month at the monthly workshops, for the swap meets, and this also affects Festivus as well. Some volunteers even stay here to docent or for warehouse cleanups. We depend on the bunks for volunteers. Especially considering many of them come from multiple states away. Wall township needs to be informed that we rely on these bunks for members to stay over and assist our organization with many of our weekly operations. This isn’t some ‘cheap hotel,’ this is a critical staff asset for our volunteers at all the local events. -Ian L.
